A very small catch (a minnow?). We brought a Trek 720 back from NY recently. (I mentioned it a few pages ago.) Ellen decided she wanted to try it out and see if it would work for her. I came out to help her get ready to roll.
Me: What happened to the toe straps?
Ellen: I threw them out. They were all rusty.
Me: Nothing a little Evapo-Rust can't cure.
Sure, they are just crappy nylon straps, but still...

A $45 Pinarello!! The frame is in terrible cosmetic condition, but the full 6400 tricolor group looks very usable. Detail shots:
Seatpost is frozen, of course. Random Campy binder bolt makes me wonder if the 6400 group is original.
I assume the Tange fork is a replacement. No evident collision damage to the top or down tubes though.
Look carbon pedals and a bottle eyelet treatment I've never seen before--perfectly flush with the seat tube
If anyone is interested in the pedals, or greatly desires a smallish Pinarello frame in need of extensive restoration, PM me. Someday I may get around to burning the seatpost out with lye, but I'll never be able to do the frame justice.

In spite of the soggy ride there and back, I had fun at our co-op's semi-annual garage sale. Main score was these three sets of pedals, including what I thnk are Centaur mtb set with minimal use. I also got some other misc parts and a tubular cross wheelset with a M950 XTR rear hub.

Brought this garage hanger home and it didn't even get out of the car when an old friend came by that didn't know he needed a bike. He brought a girl's bike for me to check out for his granddaughter. He decided he needed one so he could ride with her. Cost plus a bag of avocados from his tree? Done deal...Nishiki Backroads.

l have an open space behind my house that I throw the pits in. One started and was about 6' tall when a work crew cut it making a fire setback. Maybe you could hybrid one with a maple tree and get some avocado syrup.

My MIL loved her avocados and threw the pits all over the front and back yards. Two years later I still find an occasional sprout. I'd let one grow, but it doesn't get hot enough long enough for them to do anything.

The prize was threefold.
The Romic was frame headset bb and seatpost, the white one is a De Rosa it came with headset and bb, the wheels on the De Rosa also came from the sale last weekend as well.

I'm not sure with what I should build the Romic. Right now I'm leaning towards Shimano but the Romic asis is set at 120mm. Vintage Campy is possible but not likely, my need for lower gearing is going to drive how it gets built. Vintage Shimano is a better match.
The De Rosa will more likely get mostly period Super Record to match the wheels it currently rolling on. I'm also shopping for decals and hopefully I can get a good paint match for the White Pearl touch up.
So much for all the space I cleared last with last month's donation to the coop.

This Allez Comp has been at the local bike thrift shop for quite some time. The lugs have been keeping me up at night, they are so nice. It's on the lower end of what size frame I can ride, but those lugs! I asked about it (again), and today was given a price I could not refuse.
The front Mavic Ksyrium SSC had been hanging on the wall for at least a month, and I was really sad that there was not a matching rear to go with it. Well, today, hanging right next to it, was a black Ksyrium rear. It's an Elite, with slightly thinnner blades, and just so happens it is spaced the same as the rear in the Allez. So, I asked about the "package deal" price on the wheels, and again got a price I could simply not refuse.
So (I think we all know how this is going to end)..................
The plan is to make this into a parts bin build, "winter beater".
I also dug through the bins a bit deeper than usual, and found a few other goodies:
-Shimano 600 "brifters". The left side is NOS and was on the shelf of "better quality items", and I found the right side buried in a tub with a lot of low end levers. Right seems to work fine, just has a little rash on the outer side, otherwise pretty nice (but missing the clamp).
-One each of Suntour and Dura Ace track cogs
-Another Mavic front skewer.
-A Shimano Ultegra 6500 long cage rear derailleur, which I am going to put on my Koga to allow better hill climbing gearing. Also picked up another Ultegra 6500 (short cage) for parts.
-Two Helicomatic freewheels, for the freewheel rebuilder of the forum.

Got permission to pull any bikes I wanted out of the mixed metal recycling. Since I was working on rehabbing a suite of 20 rental houses at the time, I was in and out of there about once a week. Never found anything great, but a lot of kids bikes got pulled out and saved.

I called the owner of the local scrap facility when I saw two kids bikes in there, said I fix up adult bikes and donate any kids bikes I find to the local fix-a-bike co-op. Got permission to pull any bikes I wanted out of the mixed metal recycling. Since I was working on rehabbing a suite of 20 rental houses at the time, I was in and out of there about once a week. Never found anything great, but a lot of kids bikes got pulled out and saved.

Bianchi Trofeo in electric rose! I had a 59cm which I sold to my father to buy a 57cm. I'm thinking that's a 1986 model. You don't see them every day (not in that color for sure!) My father still has the one I sold him.

Obscure name from Italy..
Can someone please tell me about the name Mariella on a road bike? I never seen or heard of it. Looks like a typical boom bike but rather sleek it is. What is the bio or history of the make? Any info provided is appreciated, thx.

SilverSteve Sure it isn't Murabella? They were made in Mexico alongside Windsors and sold through REI. Nice chrome headlugs and short dropout socks on lower model, but 21.1 steerer tubes.

Just picked up a Schwinn Impact MOS for about the cost of one of the tires on it. Same frame as the Impact Pro MOS, just a "lower" Suntour XCT Accushift 3x7 group vs Shimano 300LX on the Pro. Purchased from the original owner who says its all original, minus consumables. Looks to be right in that Suntour "indexing hell/death throws" era. Pretty grimy, so I might just Frankenstein it together with some nicer parts I have lying around.

Found this on as a curb find today Globe ATB Cruiser bike had no front wheel seat or post picked it up anyway because I have plenty of mid level ATB MTB parts. After a couple of easy work and clean up it turned out OK. Took it for a short ride and it actually rides pretty good. Not really my style so after a couple of rides this one will likely be going to the local thrift store.
