Cinelli Supercorsa (What's the dilly?)
i saw a cinelli supercorsa on e-bay today, and i thought about bidding on it just because it was so beautiful, but it went quickly with the buy-it-now option! i didn't buy it now, because i thought it was a shade expensive.
what's the story on these frames? i've searched around here, and not much info is available for such a "known" frame. i see that they are columbus steel (neuron), and are lugged, but what's the geometry like? what's it like to ride? is it ridiculously heavy like the "old days"?
i'm warming up to the idea of building a traditional steel frame with light-weight modern components- a retro-rod so to speak. i want to keep things under 20 lbs (gulp), and i want to enter some local races on it. i know, it sounds crazy to want to race young guys (i'm on the wrong side of mid-30's) on a bike built not for racing, but for riding, but hey- i'm old-school.

great reviews on roadbike review
one review states the angles are "pure criterium": st angle is 74deg and the headtube angle is 75.5 deg, i.e. very steep, twitchy, but stable at speed. This review was for an '85 SC built w. SLX, not Neuron, so a 2002 SC is probably much different.
No idea what a new SC would go for, but way back in 02, I bet a new frameset would be over 2K. Worth it? Maybe, but for that price, you're paying a lot for the pedigree and the hot paintjob. For $850 BIN... it was worth it to someone, clearly.
You shouldn't have much trouble keeping a steel bike under 20lbs fully outfitted. My early-mid 80s Rossin weighs under 20, and that's with a steel railed saddle, chorus and strap pedals, a 1st gen c-record rear der (heavvvvy, but it's really aero ). Tubular wheels help shed weight.
good luck with the hunt. If you see any more reasonably priced NOS Cinellis near my damn size, lemme know!.

Here's supercorsa's sizing & geometry chart-
>>>I bet a new frameset would be over 2K. Worth it? Maybe, but for that price, you're paying a lot for the pedigree and the hot paintjob.<<<
Current MSRP is US$1650 w/fork.Pricing heavily reflects the abysmally weak US Dollar
GVH has inventory in stock at US$1100
>>>You shouldn't have much trouble keeping a steel bike under 20lbs fully outfitted.<<<
BTI/Cinelli USA gives these figures for weight-
Weight (frame/fork): 3.75lb/1.1lb (1700g/499g) - size 54

Shut yo' mouth! Ferrari Rosso is the ONLY color a Cinelli should be!
Here's mine:
It's mostly SRAM Rival, except for the C Record Deltas. I have a Record crank, too, but went with the compact for a recent event.

strange that you went with sram- i would think that campy would be the only choice for a retro-cinelli. nice brakes though
tell me what you think of the bike. what do you like, what bothers you. is it worth the $1,110 from GHB? any issues? and if you think i should have bought it on ebay for $850!!! (i'm still mad about that one!).
recent event? did you race the super corsa?

The buy it now price was very cheap for a Cinelli Supercoursa. You should have bought it immediately. The Cinelli is a great steel bike. I have seen older ones go for $5000. I have a 1969 Cinelli and find it is the bike I gauge all my other bikes by. I wish I had seen the frame. I would have bought it in a flash for that buy it now price.

During the Cino Cinelli days, "the" Cinelli color was Silver. Not a high price nor super deal on this one, Cinelli's reputation was built on conservative stable road bikes, this is a Post Cino bike, where things had gone much more mod. Good? Bad? just different, and more like other Italian bikes of the period, so Cinelli geometry is very time dependent after say 1977. Talking road bikes only here.

i think it's odd that they call the color "ferrari rosso", because ferrari doesn't call their red that, they call it "rosso corsa" "racing red", the traditional color of an italian automobile racing team- rosso corsa is not the sole domain of ferrari, but also include maserati, and alfa romeo, motorcycles such as mv agusta, cagiva, moto guzzi, and finally, ducati. british teams use british racing green for english teams, silver for german, yellow for belgian, orange for the dutch, white/red for the japanese, white/blue for american, and french blue for the, you guessed it, french. i'm sure there are more, but that's all i know.
red is traditionally associated with italy, but the original color was a light blue (azzurra). this was the color of the savoia, the ruling house of italy from 1861 to 1946. this is why their national football team play in azzura (light blue).
now, about the bike, is this bike strictly a "looker" or does it go as well? i love the way it looks, but i like my bike to have some go as well.

Hi Redmist, Moki was talking about a Supercorsa with criterium specs. here it is:
Head tube angle: 75.5 degrees, Seat tube angle 74.5 degrees, seat tube c to c 585mm, top tube c to c 575mm. Columbus SPX tubing - slightly thicker walled tubing just right for a stiffer criterium frame (one set of biddon mounts).
I have fitted a Cinelli VIP set; seat, biddon cover, tubular pouch, suede handle bar wrap (bars and stem), toe straps and alloy seat post replacement bolt for seat clamp.
It is a 'China Blue' colour which matches the Cobalto brake centre bolt stones. ICS levers are fitted as well.

what year is bike from?
the super corsa is such a classic looking design, and i like it even better in criterium guise. it's looks ready for business.
as for the price of that e-bay auction, a new one from gvh is $1,100, only $250 more, and it was $250 cheaper. oh well...lesson learned.

[QUOTE=redmist;5387775]what year is bike from?
The Blue Cinelli was bought new in 1985 but the order was placed in 1984 by the bike shop. The shop ordered red, white and blue frames. I fell in love with the red one but it was stolen during a nightime breakin.
It is great to ride although it is twitchy but it's fast. It weighs a respectable 21lbs. I rode it for a few years as my main ride. It is still in great condition and the Campy Super Record gruppo looks most appropriate and is in great condition as well. I purchased the rare Cinelli VIP set after I retired it from daily use.

2 great examples of what Cinelli is all about.
The older bike built in the era of Cino Cinelli - a most respected Italian frame builder and a Cinelli Laser when the Columbo family took over the Cinelli company and pushed the boundries of frame technology and easthetics.

Anyone have any experiences with the new ones or a current review to share? I'm weighing my options between a brand new Supercorsa and a Gios Compact Pro and I can't bring myself to pull the trigger on either yet. I also don't have the opportunity to see a Cinelli in person before I buy whereas the shop has the Gios frame in stock, FWIW. Any help is appreciated.

Here's mine, 1984. I think the thing about the Super Corsas is Cinelli introduced a number of innovations in his frame design, they've been in production since the 40s or 50s and they really ride great. Plus, they're beautiful!
