Sturmey Archer hub question
I have an old AG dynohub that I'm trying to get up and running. (Not the dynohub, just the 3-speed part of the hub). I noticed that when the RH locknut is screwed in, the window is blocked by the threads. Should the window give a view of the indicator chain? Is it possible that I have the axle shifted too far to the left, and if so, how do I correct this?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I don't have any experience with this hub, but it sounds to me that the axle is too long for the drop out spacing. If you used a 6 1/4" axle in a standard Sports instead of the 5 1/2", this is exactly what would happen.

What sort of spacers do you have on the drive side?

Please post photo if possible.
Note - unlike a regular hub-axle setup you can't just shift things to the left because of the position of the planetary gear which is that integrated "gear" in the center of the axle. Also, have you overhauled one of these before and what instructions did you use (just curious).
I'll go out and check my hub shortly and see if I can get some photos up.
Heres a diagram if you don't have:

Also a Dyno hub service instructions:

I use Sheldon Brown's method to adjust the indicator chain instead of the window method. I don't think it is possible to have the axle shifted too far to the left.

I suspect you are missing either the Cone Locknut washer or the serrated lip washer (anti-rotation) from the right side. Look at an exploded view of the hub and you will see the sequence, which should go: Cone Lock Nut washer, Lock nut, Serrated Washer with tab, then the Axle Nut with indicator.
