Congrats to MJH2 on winning the Vernon Hills cat 4 race. Keep it up and you'll soon be a 3.

Thanks, man. That one sorta fell in my lap. Not to mention I was lucky Shea didn't show!
I've only got 18 points and Bob already called me a sandbagger. Good times!

Shea showed but was in a wreck in the 30+ about 200 yds out in the final sprint. Tore up a lot of stuff - including himself. Offered up a wheel to race on but he was having none of it. He was done.

Yeah MHJ2, that was a great finish. I hooted and hollered, and all I have to show for it is a ridonkulous tanlines. I kept rolling up the sleeves on my long sleeve shirt I was wearing, so I am tan from my fingertips to about half way up my forearms. Dead sexy I tell ya! Great racing all day!

John- 2 points by my calculations, but I should probably verify that tomorrow.
Psimet- is he ok? There was some sketchy riding out there today.
Nixternal- where were you? That's twice this week. Come introduce yourself!

He's fine. Ended up with a good gash on his leg - looking a little stitch worthy but he got the bleeding stopped while we were sitting there. More pissed than anything else.

Genetics have failed me
Gratz mjh2! I hope you guys had a good time at the crit.
We had a good showing at the Winona Lake RR with 7 team members on Sat just to get the hopes crushed by half of our team being stuck behind a big pile up of bodies and bikes

Not really a very exciting race from my vantage point. 63 riders at the whistle, and I started towards the back. Moved to the front fairly quickly. There was a lot of erratic riding... one guy crashed into a curb all by his lonesome on the first or second lap. I drifted to the very back of the pack... which seems to be where I'm most comfortable these days. I spent the next half hour or so trying to move up the middle, and then I'd slide back.
There were two spots where the field seemed to slow just a little each time. Once about 1/8 mile after s/f and another towards the top of the "hill" after the last narrow turn. I figured those were my only real chances to move up. On the last lap, we hit the first "sit up" spot and I jumped. I didn't get very far. Maybe 30th, or so... but I managed to end up right behind somebody who always finishes well (Ferguson), so I figured I'd shadow him and do what he does.
We came through the first "narrow" turn into a tight section with a soft shoulder on the right and a short curb on the left, and the guys in the middle/left allowed for just enough room to move up on the white line. So, as Ferguson moved up I followed. We probably gained another 10 spots or so. Got through the second "narrow" turn cleanly (with 2 guys crashing immediately to my left) and jammed up the hill. I was following Ferguson on the right side of the "main" line of riders and he started moving up more. As he did, we came up on a slow/lapped/blown up rider. For some reason, EVERYBODY went to the left of him (somebody suggested later it was because the wind was blowing from left to right). As they did that, a hole opened up to his right and I jumped.
Ended up jumping from way longer out than I had planned, but I'm glad I did. I still have no idea how close it was, and I wasn't even sure I'd won (thought there might have been somebody up the road) until I rolled back around. I've been suffering from some allergies, and by the time I hit the line I had snot running across my face. Just the way I always envision these things...
Pretty cool to win at Vernon. It was my first crit ever a couple years back. RDS provided for some good prizes (cash, pizza gift certificate, medal) and does a lot to make his races seem "big" (Kenny Labbe announcing and doing post race interviews, podiums, Euro flags at the finish, hay bales over ANYTHING that you might run into). Too bad I'm a tad porky to make FRG worth the entry fee!

Ha. Thanks!
The "other" team happens to be based out of a shop that is a 5 minute roll (literally... all downhill) from my house. And they treat me pretty well.
We need Slim77 to get in here and tell us his story. I'm surprised at all that crashing out there yesterday. Although, I'm guessing it might have been the first race of the year for a lot of dudes.

The 'turn one grinder'. Lots of meat processing done there on Sunday, and this was the EASY corner unlike turn 4 that had pot holes and a depressed manhole cover!
Here's "Brad-Dog" (Trek, on the right) (WHo? Look him up, or ask Recursive, he 'should' know by now, I quizzed him enough) taking the correct line through the last turn. Nobody crashed here all day.

That shot is from the Masters 35+ 1/2/3 where he got second. He then got 15th in the Pro 1/2.
What's the recommended Psimet wheel combo for a course like that?
