Tires and fenders for 1989 Centurion Sport DLX?
Yet another bike snuck into the garage. It looks to be a well maintained 1989 Centurion Sport DLX with an Exage Motion groupset and Biopace rings. The wheels are kind of wonkey with narrow rims. so I went ahead and bought a CR-18 wheelset from Velomine. The chainstays are the narrowest wheel clearance at around 38mm, so I ordered a set of 32mm Panaracer Gravel kings. The brake calipers are Shimano BR A250's with 57mm max front and 67mm max rear. I'll get pictures when I get a chance, but was wondering if some one was familiar with this particular bike, and its suitability for fenders. I believe the frame is the same Sport Tour geometry as the Lemans, Accordo and Cavaletto of the same vintage. Thanks

Im pretty interested what you discover on this. Ill be building up an 87 Accordo mixte here soon, and was curious what size fenders and tires I can sneak in there.

I’d be surprised if you got fenders to fit. With that 38mm clearance I’d be interested to see what those 32 tires do after you sit on them.

I was thinking 28s on my side. Give a little bit more room to work with.

The 38mm measurement was a quicky and skewed torwards pessimism. I did a brief search on the Centurion Sport Touring bikes and 32's and 35's working came up a couple times, so I'm optimistic on tire size. The tenative plan is to get a set of cheap 42mm sks commuter fenders and split them if nessessary. I'm 230lbs and riding 38mm tires so I'm hesitant to drop to 28mm

Well.... I checked the chainstays again and 38mm is the clearence. The rim to brake vertical clearance is also 38 mm. So I chickened out and sent the 32mm tires back and ordered 28mm gravelkings. The fenders eyeballed ok with the calipers, but I will know more when the tires arrive. I managed to ride my two functional bikes into the ground concurrently, so this bike needs to get on the road, skinny tires and all...
