Vintage steel on vacation

Took a trip to Cape Cod to visit my mom and brought the bikes with us.

I took the 86 Trek 310, my daughter rode her 95 Trek 930, my son rode his 83 Ross Force one, and my wife rode her non-vintage non-steel Trek 7.1

My mom joined us for a quick ride on the rail trail and rode her Peugeot of unknown model and vintage:

Carbolite 103 tubes, Stronglight cranks, Shimano derailleurs and shift levers, Rigida rims with Maillard hubs, Weinmann brakes and levers. Don't remember the brand of pedals / toe clips.

Yes, the rear's a Helicomatic.

I had dragged it home out of a trash pile years ago and given it a quick once-over. My mom ended up replacing the seat, tires and bar tape.

The Bontrager tires on 27" rims are nice and meaty.

Had a great vacation, the rides were nice, and I even got to see a seal getting autopsied.

That's a nice bike. It may not fit her properly though. The seat is too low and the stem looks to be too high.

I’m glad your Mom got to go riding with the family. It would be a bit of a bummer to see the guests head out while they had to stay behind.

Nice! I do a lot of riding out there, too; my wife often rides the Atala my mom got for a youth-hostel trip on the Cape in 1962.

The stem's still below the insertion line, i checked. I did suggest switching to flat bars with a bit of rise to them.

She has the seat lowered to where she's comfortable. She could easily raise it another inch and a half.

Even though it is several sizes too small for me I was surprised at how nicely it rode.
