I will not pretend, synopsis you put up scares me. Whatever you want bike or friend related, I will answer it. I will drag your ass up to the shack with tow rope on a recumbent. Pretty sure I could get other clydes to help. You inspired many of us to do what we didn't believe we could do. If you would like to have a memorable ride, you tell me and I will do my best to accomplish this with fellow clydes, you are a clyde forever regardless of weight.
Goddammit, we made 50 plus forum.

I'll tell you one thing - he'd be a LOT EASIER to drag up that hill now!

Of course, he'd have to wear his daughter's jersey now.

You all are awesome. Thank you! I’m feeling good, and if I could walk I’d be out there riding with you all. The pain is still managed, but starting to grow. I’ve got a new pain in my back, along with a corresponding new bump. My nurse says it could be a new tumor or an swollen lymph node. The body does that when fighting cancer. The new liquid morphine “booster” helps take the edge off, though, so I’m grateful for that! Overall, I’m doing well.

I was up in your neck of the woods yesterday riding the Paul Hulse Century. It started from shopping center at McBean and Magic Mtn Parkway at Peet’s coffee. We hopped in bike trail and used that to get to roads and head to Venura. I thought of you having ridden some of the roads we took. Weather was lovely

It was a great day for the ride. And I know that shopping center well. I have ridden every trail here in town, plus the 126 to Ventura several times. That’s a nice ride!

It was a fabulous route TBH. The 126 wasn't all that bad to ride on the parts we were on it. Very wide shoulder on the way back to Santa Clarita. I would do that route again in a heartbeat.

Between 27 rounds of chemo, 28 rounds of radiation, four surgeries and 2 weeks of in-patient rehab, I have been REALLY sick and pretty much out of it. At one point they had me on so much morphine that I don’t remember about a month of my life!

Well, the tumors in my back broke a vertebra, but they fixed that with cages and other misc. hardware. Then they went back in two more times to scrape tumors out of my spine in hopes to save me from paralysis. That didn’t work and I am now committed to a wheelchair.

All along, my doctors have been very honest with me, telling me that this is not a cancer that is curable. My life could be preserved for a time, but they’ve been saying 4-6 months for quite a while, and that is with the nasty, nasty chemo. Well, they have now told me that the cancer has adapted to the chemo and it’s not working anymore. We could try another chemo, however it would only buy us 1 to 2 months. Based on all of this, we have come to the very difficult decision to stop chemo. If it’s not working, we’re going to stop trying. I’m getting the chemo out of my system and I’m going to spend what time we have left enjoying the bejeebers out of my family and friends. How long do I have? I have no idea. I’ve already started my hospice care and they are committed to keeping me comfortable. This is a huge relief because I have cancer in so many places that I’m not sure what will rear it’s ugly head first. It could be the bone cancer, and that is extremely painful! My nurse assured me she can keep me comfortable, which is my number one goal!

I started at 245 lbs. I’m now at 152 lbs, eating anything and everything. This is not the way I recommend losing weight!

So, go home tonight and love on your family. You never know what tomorrow holds! I for one had a lot of plans, all of which are now just a memory of what was going to be. Please, go love your family...TODAY AND EVERY DAY!
So sorry to hear this.

Howard.

Pain meds had to be bumped up AGAIN today. This isn’t a good sign. Things are definitely progressing and getting worse. Harrumph!

No Hard Feelings...

I did not know PJ personally, but his courage was evident in this post. Made me think about this wonderful song by the Avett Brothers, to live life with no hate and no regrets.

When my body won't hold me anymore
And it finally lets me free
Will I be ready?
When my feet won't walk another mile
And my lips give their last kiss goodbye
Will my hands be steady?
When I lay down my fears
My hopes and my doubts
The rings on my fingers
And the keys to my house
With no hard feelings
When the sun hangs low in the west
And the light in my chest
Won't be kept held at bay any longer
When the jealousy fades away
And it's ash and dust for cash and lust
And it's just hallelujah
And love in thoughts and love in the words
Love in the songs they sing in the church
And no hard feelings
Lord knows they haven't done
Much good for anyone
Kept me afraid and cold
With so much to have and hold
Mmh
When my body won't hold me anymore
And it finally lets me free
Where will I go?
Will the trade winds take me south
Through Georgia grain or tropical rain
Or snow from the heavens?
Will I join with the ocean blue
Or run into the savior true
And shake hands laughing
And walk through the night
Straight to the light
Holding the love I've known in my life
And no hard feelings
Lord knows they haven't done
Much good for anyone
Kept me afraid and cold
With so much to have and hold
Under the curving sky
I'm finally learning why
It matters for me and you
To say it and mean it too
For life and its loveliness
And all of its ugliness
Good as it's been to me
I have no enemies
I have no enemies
I have no enemies
I have no enemies

Thank you for letting me know.

I never met PhotoJoe, just exchanged a few email, and a passed down jersey. Still, I'll shed a tear for him.

It's been a year since PhotoJoe passed. I didn't know him but was impressed by his last few posts and inspired by the quote below. I'll think of him when I go for a ride on April 25.
