Shimano Light Action Derailleur
I want to put this derailleur on my old Peugeot ao8. The mounting bolt is threaded and will not pass through the hole in the claw that mounted the Simplex derailleur. So, i guess i need another claw. Question is, is the correct claw threaded for the bolt or is the derailleur fastened by a special nut that tightens onto the bolt? Also, i don't have a bike coop nearby to rummage through,so where could i find the correct claw? Thank you for any help.

Go to Home Depot and get an M10x1mm tap for the claw hole?

Nearly all modern claws will have the mounting hole threaded for M10x1mm. And most bike shops will have this claw...my local shop just gave me one when I was looking to mount a more modern derailleur on my Peugeot PO-18. These are pretty readily available on eBay and on Amazon (pay no more than $6-8 for one). Here's an article with more than you ever wanted to know about derailleur hanger designs.
The bottom line is nearly any modern claw hanger you find on eBay or Amazon will work with a modern Shimano derailleur.

IIRC this der series will not need a backing nut, behind the hanger plate (or claw, how I dislike that term), as long as the plate has proper threads. Have you confirmed that the shift lever will pull enough cable to run the der through the needed range of in/out travel? Some older Euro levers pulled less cable then Asian ones did. Andy
