UK/Scottland tour on own bikes - logistics

Guys, please help me plan a bike tour in the UK and/or Scottland. Any suggestions are welcome!

Inputs:

- We are a family of 3 and would like to bring our own road bikes from the US (rather than renting there).
- We want to fly in with our bikes in the luggage, get on our bikes and bike away
- For our flight back, we need to put our bikes back in the luggage and fly back with them.
- We want to move from town to town and NOT just stay in one place and bike around it.
- We want to travel with our own bike bags - 2 per bike, hanging from the rack behind.

Questions:
-Best way to pack the bike for an oversees flight
-Depending on how we packed it - what to do with the bike bag/carton once we've arrived? I mean - we can't shlept it along on our bikes. And we need to pack the bikes again on the way back.
-Does the rack actually fit into bike bags?
-How to check-in / carry on the 2 bike bags per person?

Thank you so much for your advice!
Dimitri

Each airline has its own policy. If you go to the airline website you will find detailed instructions on how to pack your bike. The Touring sub forum might have mpore advice for you.
