Help with bike tire size

So I have an older cannon sale bike and the tire size says 26x1.5 and it won’t hold air- I went to Walmart and could only find tubes for 26x1.75- will this work or do I need to go somewhere else to get tubes? Please help

The question in your poll isn't the same as the situation you described and ask in your post.

The tube might work. But it might not work well for either situation. 1.75" and 1-3/4" are not the same size tire. Nor for the tubes either.

It can be a little tough fitting too wide of a tube into a tire, but it can be done if you're careful. Tubes generally fit a range of sizes, especially if they are good quality tubes.

First of all, understand that tube sizing is VERY forgiving since it's simply a shaped balloon that will expand to fill the available space. I prefer to use tubes slightly smaller than the tire to make installation easier, but as I said it's VERY forgiving. Also note that the undersize allowance I referred to is built in when tubes are marketed, so you'll be fine with that tube. \

The (not so) secret truth is that the same tube can be boxed and sold as a variety of sizes. So that tube might be sold as anything from 26x1.5 to 26x2 depending of the request of the company marketing them.

A bike shop would probably only be about $1-2 more for what I would consider to be a better fitting tube.
It's easy to have small "folds" when trying to fit a tube that's "larger" than the tire.
Those "folds" become weak spots and may or may not fold differently next flat.

There's plenty of proper sized tubes on the internet,
Just use your search engine for- 26x1.5 bike tube

It should work. I use 25-32 tubes in my 25’s.

While not being delusional that a less stretched inflated tube will stop an object that has been able to penetrate the tire, I’d rather stretch the tube walls less than using an 18-25 tube.

You might have to be careful not to pinch it when mounting, but once on the rim, I see no problem with a 1.75 tube in a 1.50 tire.

Are you telling us that the well-trained bicycle department mechanics at Walmart were unable to answer this question during your visit?
