Rocket-Sauce are you a good swimmer? That's a really nice bike, and it shows how you get the best of both worlds when you put modern components on an old steel frame. Even better, Peter Mooney is local to you, right?

Doing brifter ergo retro fit now.

I need help finding hudz or hoods for Campagnolo 9 speed (v2?) in White or Bordeaux Gold (gum). The normal sources have been dried up.
Secondly, can I turn any 2x9 speed Campagnolo ergo into 3x9? The notes are unclear.

(Specifically, these are Record Ti 9 speed with carbon levers. I would prefer alloy levers, but I bought a groupset cheap.)

Thanks

Campagnolo Ergo levers by default can shift two or three chainrings. They have something like 11 or 12 detents on that left/front shifter, which is plenty to shift twice. You're good to go.

You're welcome. Those shifters are as close to friction as one can get. Great for wider-spaced chainrings (center to center) and just providing flexibility in trimming and FD cage location. Shimano triple STIs need a really precise setup to work correctly as the front shifter indexes. It's nice when it works, annoying when it doesn't. The Ergo shifters are also great at not chucking chains off the top ring or the bottom ring due to the design, which enables smooth, paced derailleur cage movement.

I am a passable swimmer. I used to be a lifeguard, and did a few triathlons back in the 80s.

Rowing is my best sport (see my profile pic? I used to be pretty good at it ), which also favors tall folks with long levers. I am a college rowing coach and still compete in masters events.

Part of why I have wanted a Mooney for so long, is that he is local and has a rowing background himself. My other main bike is a Calfee. Craig Calfee used to be local and got started by working for a rowing shell company building carbon outriggers....

I built this as a test mule to see if I can get mrs non-fixie to try - and hopefully like - drop bars. I started with the most comfortable setup I could think of: B17s saddle (she likes those) short and tall stem (for a more upright position), rando bars with comfy faux leather tape and Ergo levers. To my surprise it weighs only just over 26 lbs. With the heavy-duty touring frame and wheels, the Brooks saddle and the fenders I expected it to be heavier.

On the stand and on its first brief maiden ride it shifted well, but we still have to take it out for further testing. The spindle is a couple of millimeters longer than I'd like, so I'll be looking for the chain to drop when shifting to the inner ring while on the larger cogs in the rear.

For just testing drop bar setups here in this flat area that should not be much of an issue, but if this build turns out to the proverbial hole-in-one, I'll probably replace the bottom bracket, if only for peace of mind.

Done except for 2 Colnago cages...

Poor pics, I know.
10sp Centaur Ergo/FD/RD/calipers.
Chorus 11sp compact cranks with Centaur rings.
Scirocco wheels, Unk post, Prologo perch, Cinelli steering.
50/34 & 12-28. GP 4000SII 25's, suede wrap.
Forte cage will go elsewhere once the Colnagos get here from Canada.

Paint scheme goes from purple to wine? to faux carbon to black, and then all the way back to purple.

Oh. 1985 Super.
55cm square.
I need a wine-colored seat bag.
I've been known to tacky up a classic bike.
It's a gift.

Great to see one "in the [digital] wild" on a C&V frame. Looks serious in the matte black. Also makes me want to give my late-'80s SLX Battaglin frame, with it's poorly-welded rear dropout and replaced unicrown fork, another shot. I mean, it's still not put up for sale, it's just sitting with other framesets I need to put up for sale...

EDITED because the BF syntax editor thought an innocent word was bad, made the edit (without me knowing/after my post), and created something that could look like I said something much worse. Seriously...
