Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sort of. Though, as I deal with peoples, I'm thinking you are quite right.

One of our cats developed some condition that the vets weren't sure about and gave him six weeks to live. We brought him home and he went on an absolute murder spree, eating the front halves of every rodent he could get his paws on and littering our many yards with dozens upon dozens of rodent hindquarters. He was missing something in his diet, because that was new behavior and he lived another four years or so.

Off topic... I’m seriously considering picking up an Aspero or Caledonia instead of the R3, I think I’d be more comfortable on some of the nearby dirt and gravel with a bit wider of a tire (max I can get on the R3 is the 28mm I’m doing now)

am I crazy?

Nope. Not crazy at all. I'll be right there with ya if/when I can upgrade my frame for ~$500.

Ha, "off topic". I'd take a Caledononia over an R3, certainly. Very rarely will you regret tire clearance.

It was all cars and cats at the time.

I’d to the Aspero without hesitation if the crank gearing on GRX didn’t stink

Yeah the Aspero is a bit more restricted, but what I can't figure out is when I'd say "man, I wish I had gotten the R3 over the Caledonia". Can you?

Is there any reason that you couldn't swap it with a 50/34 Ultegra? I mean, besides the additional cost.

Today I rode the mtb up the mountain behind the house and came down a dirt road like I usually do but today a guy from my road club was climbing up as I was descending. I didn't even know he had a mountain bike. Small world, cycling.

I could, or just build it the way I want, but that would probably cost more. It’s really Aspero over Caledonia because of the rock guard on the down tube and a little more clearance that I may never need.

Nope. Kind of hard to imagine a knockoff being way off on the colour, though. Maybe it came from New York.

I got an e-mail from The Pro's Closet saying they are having a sale on new bikes. I didn't know they sold new bikes. Anyway they feature a different brand each day for 6 days. Today they had Allied bikes. They look nice, all of them priced around $5k. One day they are going to feature Cannondale and I would be curious to see what the prices are and if they have any gravel bikes.
The odd thing is the pictures show the bikes with their "certified used" stickers on them.

That is odd. Maybe they are new (other) like demo bikes or leftover NOS?

First time tonight that I hit 20 miles right at 1 hour. Pretty stoked, this was my goal when I started this crazy sport over a year ago.

My Python (not the snake) would sure take care of those little PIAs, but would leave a real mess.
They’re house pets here, whose owners evidently think have some sort of natural right to maraud on other people’s property. I have a slingshot and clay ammo for them. Some day I’ll hit one.

Although not a notoriously unreliable model, I do remember pushing a 10 year old VW Beetle through an intersection one chilly fall night.
