Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Same; I'm a zombie without it and take it black and stronk. However, I can only have one cup or I get brutal insomnia, which means I never have it from a coffeeshop except when traveling.

I have been known to drink it in order to calm down my thoughts, so I could sleep.
I also like it black and strong(just like the old joke), and for the past few years I've been drinking C. robusta, with 1.5x the caffein of C arabica.
I'm so far enjoying the new buzz. Long may she wave.

So last night I decided to try a true recovery ride. It was a slow burn thing on zwift just sitting and spinning at around 110 watts. So yeah, basically 1 w/kg. Just embracing the slow because otherwise I can't do real recovery rides.

Really something that 1/3 of the patients in one study didn't take a drug for a problem they specifically made an appointment to treat. Why bother?

Wrong "you." If you have strep throat and you go to the doctor and he gives you an antibiotic which you don't take, why even bother seeing the doctor in the first place?

They are getting *very* close, now. I haven't looked at the non-hydro stuff, but within the current groups, you're looking at stuff like: paint vs anodized, aluminum vs carbon levers, the ability to alter brake engagement, slightly better bearings in the RD, etc. Oh, and a couple hundred grams or so. IOW, in terms of function and performance, there's almost nothing separating them. Vanity and weightweenie-ism will keep the Ultegra and DA selling, though.

Ah... I'm sore from yesterday's hard ride and am sitting down at my computer with a hot cup of coffee and it begins to rain outside. Is there anything better than listening to rain on your rest day?
#dumbluck but I'll take it.

As an example, the DA9000 on my Domane was new when 105 5700 was the standard "entry" level. Like a year or two later, 5800 came out and is a carbon copy of all the architecture of DA9000, just less carbon and fancy metals so it's a little heavier. And aright around the same time, the new Dura Ace showed up. Marginal gains and all that...

That reminds me, I need to see if I can score a 5800 group for cheap now.

You can get groups at reasonable prices stateside, but the best prices that I've seen are still in the UK - Merlin is still shipping Shimano to the US, but most (like PBK) aren't any longer. If you're looking at hydro, Merlin's the best I've seen by far.

I am very much enjoying my caffein free buzz. I seem to have lost my apetite along with it. Eating a cheese sandwich now, because, getting on the bike soon.
A magnificent 74° and overcast. Light wind. If my adjustment worked yesterday, I should be good for 40 miles.

Ok, so not new, but it flared up in the last couple of weeks. I have had issues with left foot numbness most likely caused by a Morton's Neuroma between the 3rd and 4th digits. It has only ever been painful once that I can recall in the past, but it seems as I've upped the mileage, it tends to get numb pretty quick. Maybe after 30-60 minutes on the bike. It's happening with both shoes, and neither toe box feels tight. Wondering if the pads that lift behind the ball of the foot might make the difference or not.
Iget that quite bad. Specialized foot beds have helped me immensely.
