Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

On a serious note. This whole thread kind of defeats the purpose of what it was intended for, doesn't it?

ie. MUP = Multi-Use Path.

There are those who believe bikes should only be allowed on a MUP, because they inhibit road traffic, and slow down our precious economy.

Then, there are those who believe bikes should removed from MUP's, because they are too dangerous to the pedestrians, and should be only allowed on roads.

I've found we as cyclists really don't have much position to be whining about where we get to ride, as we are allowed to ride just about anywhere.

One shouldn't ruin our broad terrain by complaining about everyone else.
The main MUP in my part of the world isn't supposed to be one...it's a BIKE PATH. Every 50 feet or so the words "Bikes Only" are painted on said path, and for a couple of miles there is actually a parallel path about 20 or less feet away that has "Peds Only" painted on it. I accept the roller bladers, runners and the like, because they'd present a hazard on the Peds path, but, yeah, I get a bit cheesed off when a group of 4 people walk along taking up 3/4 of the path, and yes, I do at times pass said people with less than a foot of space separating us.

Funny post made even funnier by the rest of the thread. For what it's worth, Jim, I had a good laugh.

Think of it this way...

Would you drive your car on a 2-lane road at 60mph while other cars move slowly and unpredictably at 10mph? Probably not.

That said, we as cyclists have every right to go on any MUP at any (legal) speed we please. But as always, we should exercise caution when approaching people, strollers, bums etc.

I was riding down an MUP the other day, and i was quickly approaching a group of kids walking home from school. They were on the side of the road, but then 2 of them started to move into the trail. One turned around and saw me, and the other appeared to turn around, but didn't see me coming. I ended up running into him and going over the handlebars. Luckily, I was able to slow down enough that both of us (and bike) walked away unharmed. I told him sorry, but he needs to be more aware for bikers on this trail.

But for parents who lets kids run around and make no attempt to round up their kids or get their attention when you are riding up on them...they deserve to be frowned upon!

It's amazing that people keep posting the Pro's and Con's even after we are collectively shook and told "IT'S a JOKE!"

2/3 don't read anything but the OP. Hence the continuing silliness.
