Climbing + headwind = PITA

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I love headwind. I just keep thinking about climbing 12% grade while heading into the wind since there is no hill in Chicago.

Headwind uphill is easier than crosswind uphill

The wind is always going to be my enemy. It makes everything harder especially since I ride a MTB

Headwinds/crosswinds + climbing = massive resistance training

Depending on your attitude, you can either say "Oh crap!" or "Bring it on, baby!". Either way, once you decide to tackle it and succeed, you end up becoming a better rider.

HTFU indeed!

chaosweaver - depends on where you ride, consider that with every climb there is an eventual descent, it is at that point you truly enjoy it. I ride an MTB Giant Rincon, it does the trick. Though I retrofit more for commuting, I still ride any singletrack I can find. Sometimes it could be as simple as changing the tires imo.
