When your town lacks rental bikes.

My girlfriend talks to lots of folks who travel to exchange ideas on how to do it cheaply and where the interesting places are. She ran into a woman online who is visiting Peoria IL and can't find a rental bike in the area. I have a Peugeot mixte frameset that needs to be used. It just became a 3 speed with dynamo lights and fenders. I couldn't be happier to start my bike loaner non profit. Make that deficit spending, but who's counting when someone actually wants to ride around your town.

Another good reason to visit Peoria. I'm sure there is local knowledge that comes with that rental as well.

I rented a bike from a shop when I was in the Chicago area. Of course it rained during my ride. Fenders are always good.

Starting a Bike Rental place is probably easeir then starting a Non-profit Bike Rental Place. Looks like you have more then a few Bike Shops in Peoria. Ya all even have a Co-Op. Strange...

Hey... Nice Mixti!

Just up the road in Evanston, we have several loaner bikes in our garage (we have an Airbnb unit in our three-flat). They get some use, but not tons. Most people drive or walk out seems.

This woman was specifically looking for a bike and it made my gf want to help. If it goes well I may build up 3-4 different size three speeds folks can borrow. Sarah is in touch with many frugal travelers.

We have one couple who comes from Britain each summer. He's from here, she's the Brit. He rides the heck out of a Motobecane mixte in our fleet. Heck, I'd ride it if it was big enough...
