1970's Araya
Hey everyone!
Let me give you a quick little story first. Well, I have never really been in to bikes nor have I owned one since I was 12. However, the other day I had the sudden and random impulse to buy a road bike. I felt like I should maybe get a bike just to save gas by riding to my girlfriends house or even bringing it to school to ride around. Anyways, I've become quite interested in bikes all the suden.
Enough of that. I just purchased this bike off ebay, just something simple to get me started and I like the green and gold colors =).
I did a little research and it seems like Araya frames are a bit mysterious, I know they make rims though. The seller however didn't provide any specifics about the components of the bike (i've emailed him and he hasn't responded yet). So I was hoping some of you guys may recognize any of the components on this bike and possibly even the exact year. I am just interested to see what it has, nothing looked recognizable to me.

Green and gold were my high school's colours! They are also the colours on my Richard Sachs, so I tend to like that combination too

The cottered crankset, 5-speed freewheel, and stem shifters indicate ca. 1973 vintage, plus or minus several years. If you report the serial number and its location, we may be able to decipher the frame builder's identify. For example, Kxxxxx on the bottom bracket would be Kawamura, which also built Nishiki and Azuki.

Awesome! It is my university colors as well. And my girlfriend likes it because they are the South Africa colors and shes from there.
