De Rosa SLX Frameset ~58cm

Unlisted for sale.

Okay, so against part of my better judgement, I am thinking it's time to part with this...

Best guess is that it is mid 80s. De Rosa SLX or Professional model.

I purchased it a while ago from the original owner and at the time it had a hodgepodge of components, but it still road like silk. At the time of purchase, seller explained that a year or two after he originally bought it, the paint was failing and De Rosa authorized a warranty full repaint from CycleArt in California. There is a CycleArt logo near the bottom bracket. I know repaints aren't ideal, but seeing that it was a factory-warranty repaint, it has never phased me, and I took him at his word about the history.

Limited pics posted now, but happy to share more, including details of any/all blemishes with a potential buyer.

Seat tube CTC is just a shade over 58 (call it 58.5 though I am not perfect at measuring) and top tube CTC is pretty much spot on 58.

Cosmetics, I give it an 8+ out of 10.

Sale would NOT include Headset (on there for easier pics).

In addition to frame and for, it WOULD include all of what I think were/are the original bits that were on it when I bought it:
• Campy seat binder bolt
• Cinelli Stem (125mm reach)
• Handlebars ( Cinelli Giro D'Italia, 42mm)-- Both bars and stem were never used by me (removed after original purchase for better fit/comfort when I rode it).

To get that kind of price you'll need to go to eBay.

Thanks! Good to know. It’s one of those bikes I likely over splurged on and don’t want to fully cut bait on. Since I generally hate using that auction site I’ll have think. But thanks for the value/price heads up.

I was in a similar situation a few years back. I ended up taking a loss. You'll have a better chance to get your asking price on the bay. You could always try your local CL.

Nice bike, BTW.

Nice bike, BTW.

Thanks! And so after consulting our household accountant (aka, my wife....) and weighing the cost/risk of taking it to auction and doing all the general math, I figure I can give it one shot with trying a decent, best-price reduction.

NFS

Thanks to everyone for their candid advice and time. Any interest with the reduction?

Do an ebay search of "de rosa SLX" for sold listings, and see what comes up.

250eur + 50eur postage - frame and fork, no headset
489eur + 49eur postage - frame, fork, headset, seatpost

... and so on. Some for a bit more, some a bit less, depending on headset or fork or whatever.

I'd build and ride that. Doesn't hurt to try to sell it, you only have to sell it once, you may hit someone who's been having a hard time finding a De Rosa in their size.

I've been keeping my eye out for a top flight Italian bike like this or, perhaps more my taste, a top flight British bike. I'm thinking $300 for a bare frame (like the eBay listings above) you can find something if you shop around.

I think you should be able to find a buyer at your lowered price.
Perhaps not on this site, but...somewhere.

Personally, If listing on the bay, I would list with a BIN where you would like to be and a Best Offer feature. You have a great frameset that is pretty specific as far as size and color and condition. Auction is not always the best choice. Note that your prospective bay buyers will probably see the frame here on BF and use advice given here as a bargaining chip. Worst case scenario........."you get stuck" holding a beautiful De Rosa frameset in your size. GLWTS

I purchased this bike as a frameset a couple years ago off Paceline. It is in excellent condition but I did have to replace a top tube brake guide which cost me $30. I purchased it for significantly less than the frameset for sale in this thread. The large size frame does lower the price though. I think a nice frame like the one for sale would sell if the price was dropped.

That is a beautiful colour and bike.

How would you describe the ride quality and handling of this bike?

Someone burned off the old one, brazed on a new one and redid the paint that well (nice match, btw) for $30?
Please LMK who, I have some work for them!

Nice frame!

I am looking for a De Rosa, but in 56cm size. I saw one like this at Eroica CA two years ago for $650 in a 56cm. I wish I would have bought it. De Rosas seem to be few and far between. I think if the seller is patient, he will sell it for at of near $650. Beautiful frame! GLWS.

I got the old one removed, and a new one (from a De Rosa so it matched) brazed on. The guy I took it to was very careful so very little touch up was needed. I had some fingernail polish that was an almost perfect match and did the touch up.

Mine is an ‘86 with similar (original) paint job. OP I think price with the extra bits is fair for a great bike. Market for vintage bikes is flat though.

6.8 to be exact, as frame, fork and Dura Ace Headset.

I want to keep it, but my wife says there's a bathroom to renovate...

NFS

If anyone wanted to buy a full build kit along with it, I could package it with the period correct dura ace build kit I put together to build it up. Have wheels, aero seat post, all components. Can dig it out and photo and determine a price for that too if someone interested in buying both together and save shipping expenses.

I think it's all 7400, with downtube shifters. Maybe front derailleur is 7700? Can't recall. Ditto that on hubs, though I do remember they are tubular rims.

Anyway, it's boxed up, and I can check it all later from home and let you know. I also have pics of any/all blemishes in the paint for prospective buyer.

haha. Someone who could do the work himself and has more time than money.... and a multi-year renovation project, but could use every penny to put toward hiring a contractor (in this case, a tiler) to help speed things up. I like old houses almost as much as I do vintage bikes, but confess that both at times drive me crazy!
