I stepped away from cycling during the late 70s to early 80s and so I didn't know anything about the evolution of the speedometer.
I thought the Erisman Pacemeter was interesting and surprised that a top rider would be using one back then.
I also had not heard of the HSD Digi-tac, but thought it funny that it needed steel spokes and sensed every one of them instead of just using a magnet on one as became the norm later.
Some memories from 1976 feel as current as just last year. This article seems like ancient times to me.
When I first saw the pic of the Erisman Pacemeter, it reminded me of the "speedometer" often seen on the inside of spaceships in 1950s sci-fi movies.
