Trek 520 fork size

Howdy folks,

Just an odd question, I flipped a coin between mechanics & here, & touring lost so ...
I recall there was at least one year where it used the annoying 1" threadless size on the fork.
What was the first year the Trek 520 used 1/8 threadless fork?

Thanks

I would love to hear how @dsb_mac managed to dig this thread up from over a decade ago.
