60 & In my best shape
I’m 60 now and in my best shape since I was 30. Thanks to biking. I have been biking during part time job usually 5 to 10 miles for 9 years now. But I got a road bike this year (versus my trail bikes) and try to commute into work 3 miles now expanded to 16 miles. Then try 16 miles home. What a difference that has made. I dropped 15 lbs and I feel great. The ‘during work’ miles did not help burn calories. But I wasn’t driving and slacking. I now have 2600 miles on this year.
Stop driving and start bike commuting. It will really change your life.

Agree, still early for me but riding was the missing piece to my fitness.
Instead of dreading 30 minutes of cardio on a machine, I can’t wait to do 45-60 minutes on my bike. I can see how people get going into riding for even longer.
Im just wondering what I’ll do as it gets cold. Indoor? Those roller things? I gotta start looking into it....

Exactly right, that part about not driving and slacking. And once you're in that great shape, the cycling to work is easy, and that makes it far more enjoyable than driving. I think of this as our "secret" because people think we're enduring some sort of ordeal, day after day, while in reality we're just having fun. And getting stronger.

I might drop dead tomorrow or get creamed by someone on the way home tonight, but all I can say is that up to now, it has helped keep me healthy and happy. And I KNOW that would not be the case if I had commuted on the mean streets of LA those 30 years.

20 years ago I decided I hated indoor trainers and rollers so much, I put on a coat and ventured out in the cold.
Now I have my ice bike with studded tires, gloves for every ten degree increment, rain gear, lights, emergency layers, wool socks, wool knickers and year round fitness.

10 yrs ago, I was in my best shape at 50. back in my 40s I undertook an extensive body transformation. it took a long time with lots of walking, running, swimming, weight training, racquetball, cycling & nutritional changes. it helps to be motivated. at 60 I'm still enjoying many of the benefits of all that hard work. but it's a lot to keep up with!

Rollers& trainers
I found I did not like to use them. So I picked up a used Nordic Track ski machine. I love using it when its raining. It gets some arm exercise in without too much strain.

I'm 62 and feel that I'm in great shape compared to years gone by. Biking, swimming, hiking and yoga does all add up to better health. My motto is "if you stop, you're dead"... Gotta keep moving...

I have one of those too, an old eclipse 9 model, and I love it. I use it mostly in the winter when I can't ride.
