Wow I am hella outa shape. I planned 3 hours with 2x20 @245 to keep it easy enough. Couldn't even hit 245 for the second one. Brought 600 calories with me but I guess I'm not used to burning so many calories and got home starving, 90 minutes before a powerlifting class.

So I ate a slice of pizza, drank a protein shake, took a cold and hot shower, drank 300 kcal of maltodextrin, took a 20 minute nap, drank some coffee, filled a bottle of maltodextrin and went to the gym. Got some energy.

Went to the free trial powerlifting class that just started up at my gym. Did some light weight exercises with a super buff bodybuilder/powerlifter girl leading the class. Good class, but maybe hard to work into my busy workout schedule. Threw in some lightweight rows, pull ups, and a back lever to finish off. Now I gotta go eat 2500 calories before bed.

Today marks the start of my fourth month of training. CTL has finally broken 70, and just in time for the first race of the year next week. Coincidentally, it's also my first master's race ever so I'll only have to race 50 miles for the road race. Yay.

Power is still 6-8% lower across the board but hopefully it's enough to be competitive. I managed 406w for five minutes the other day, so that's creeping back up. The really short, sharp efforts and the longer efforts are the struggle at the moment.

I saw. I turned on the live feed and was wondering how all of those local guys were racing.

I raced Chad last year in Cookeville and thought for sure he was going to take the win. He did the exact same thing then, leading out from a ways out and no one coming around. He's an absolute diesel. Looked like a pretty good race.

I usually do a 100k Tempo ride on Zwift on Sundays, but I couldn't even go an hour. 3 hours of sleep last night because one of the people we had over last had to sleep with a television on, and it had to be loud af. I can't sleep with noise, so I turned it off at 3 am.

Going into a rest week, I just need to reset mentally.

Also going into a rest week. I'm still doing madison practice on Thursday at the track so that will be higher intensity than the rest of the week.

Yesterday's ride was supposed to be 3x20' threshold intervals in a two-hour ride. Coach had given me the option of stopping at two or shortening the third one. I made it through the first two okay, though at a higher heart rate and RPE than usual. Started the third one and felt okay...then the watts started dropping. Rested a minute, tried again and made it to four minutes. Copious blue language ensued. Decided to take the hint and turned around for home. It's been a while since that's happened. In my ride notes I wrote, "No issues other than a bruised ego."

Taper week.

A short gym spin Friday, off Sat with lots of yard work, then 2 hrs alone Sunday on road.

The Sunday ride was a good one. Pretty steady tempo/SS, just a little threshold or higher stuff over the rollers. Over 20mi/hr for ~2 hrs and 2500 ft.

One of my few attempts each year at a race is in a month. Looking to be up about 30w on 20min power. I am up 40w on 3-5min power, and about 40w on SS power from that race last year. My SS power used to really suck.

I'm a little less naive also. I think that's worth as much or more. I was kind of hanging on/along for the ride last year. I wasn't out to control anything. Was the same on the local hammer rides. This year, not so. I'm also starting to ride/train with folks above my ability level.

Yesterday: yard intervals and then a super mellow 90 minutes exploring urban gravel and dirt with my kid. 2x20' sweet spot on the TT bike this afternoon.

Good little ride with a teammate on Sunday. Chatting and talking about how we are both out of shape for the upcoming season.

Gym today, form finally coming together on deadlift (2x245 at end of set and had more in me) and even did some power cleans. Back is a little sore but should be fine. Tuesday night rides start back up tomorrow. Ready to get my butt handed to me.

My life is tempo. 14hrs the last 3 days and 763tss. Today is 6hrs. I'm not quite sure what the worst part is, it's either going up and down stairs, or how much my jaw hurts from eating so much.

Going down stairs (or ramps) is always worse than going up.

Yesterday was deadlift doubles, front squats for form/high reps, and bike sprints.

Today was bench and overhead press while my legs rest up. Tomorrow is gonna be 8 minute threshold intervals if I can find a good 8 minute hill that I can get back down quick enough.

My back is having a hard time catching up to gym+bike work. Trying to get 8+ hours of sleep but 9+ would be better.

finally felt halfway like myself on a ride today. Still heavy, but 5lbs less heavy than a bit ago. two teammates on the fun ride, which means I just get to go and go to make it easier for them to ride away on the final steep 90s climb. They don't particularly need my help, but it's fun and good practice to jump on the counters when I already feel like vomiting.

Taking it easy on the bike this week. Racing Sunday so I'll be back at it a day early.

Jogged for 20 min last night (sore AF currently), mellow MTB ride into work. Looking forward to some "urban assault" on the way home early this evening in some glorious San Diego spring weather! Some hoodlums built a pump track into a dirt/grass lot in front of a Fry's electronics, and there are a few pretty sweet big embankments on the way back that are just a bunny-hop and wall ride away from the bike lane. Stoked.

Hour of power on Fiesta on road bike after warmup, accelerations and jumps. Fiesta was windy with, IMO, a 50 watt difference downwind and up wind. I rode average tempo power with the wind at my back and sweet spot into the wind. I had pretty slow lap times 13 minutes.

First Tuesday Night Worlds with any sort of effort; this was going to be a test of sorts because I know what power numbers I should hit up Sunset.......and I'm 20 watts short.

Its still early and this is my rest week (I rarely skip this ride because its fun af) so I'm not panicking but I definitely thought I would have been stronger today =\

Rode outside after work yesterday. Felt good. Did 1 "interval" at a measly 300 watts and it hurt (just shy of 2 minutes). Felt good to go fast, even if just a little bit..hopefully the weather cooperates with spring, because I just cant get pumped up to do anything other than an hour of endurance on the trainer this year. Will likely start racing later than normal (except for Barry Roubaix...) assuming I get some quality outdoors rides in coming up.

I finally admitted to myself not too long ago that I burned out a bit after last year, so im just going to do whatever I feel like doing when I want to do it for now.

More MTB into work tomorrow. Still holding out for madison practice tomorrow but if it's raining, maybe some trainer after work
