Cycle NC Day 1

Day 1 Cycle NC done. 61 miles from Blowing Rock to Hickory. Descending Hwy 321 from Blowing Rock was a blast. No touching the brakes for 13 miles.

Perfect day to ride. It was great to ride through a familiar and scenic country side. Enjoyed a bbq sandwich at Sims BBQ at the last rest stop.

Rode too fast....the luggage truck and showers have yet to arrive.

Our camping area doesn’t look very shady today for these hot temperatures!! Early starts and finishes help with dealing with the 90 degree temperatures.

A delicious and full breakfast to start the week. A Mexican Restaurant opened early just for us.

Typical tent city for those camping which I do.

The official start.

First rest stop.

Follow these signs all week and you will finish at the Beach next weekend.

Typical views all day after descending.

Historic school house.

Our camping spot.....if it were the normal seasonal temperatures it might be okay. 90 degrees in a tent is brutal.

My son, who lives in the Charlotte area, called this evening and told us it was 95F there. Ugh! October in the mountains should be MUCH cooler. Hope you can hold up!
