Finished a 1987 LeTour that is now on CL, it was too small but a good deal so I got it expecting to move it on. I would love to find another Tenax Framed Schwinn in my size one of these days. I didn't go full tilt with the refurb but all the important stuff got done, redid all the bearings, new chain and cassette, set up in Indexed mode, added a rear brake as it came to me without one and new pads, cables and housing. Left the tires and bar wrap as found since they were in decent shape.

R.I.P. 1987 Schwinn Super Sport

You may have seen my re-made 1987 Schwinn Super Sport on this forum last fall. Unfortunately the brazing between the seat tube and bottom bracket lug casting started to fail, and the concentrated stress on the part that was still attached caused the casting to crack. Frame was $100, so not worth repairing.

I recently picked up this 1986 Voyageur. Rides like a big old Buick.

Noooooooo!

That was a fantastic modernization.
What plans do you have for the 105 group?...that black with dark red frame was a great combo.

Thanks. I had a couple of upcoming road rides to do, so I threw the parts on to a non-C&V CAAD9 frameset I picked up cheaply (kind of boring, but it rides quite nicely!). I may modernize another vintage frame or two for my daughters, once they stop growing so fast.

I probably shouldn't have been bunny hopping potholes on a 32-year-old frame!

Another shot of my Schwinn Prologue. I really like Panasonic bikes and late-80s Schwinns so owning and riding this bike is a delight. Tange Prestige! yum. I was hesitant about the color scheme at first, but now I love it. It has character and pays a little homage to where it was made. If I have to choose between the gray/black version vs. the red/white, it will be a tough choice for me now.

I thought I should add one of my Schwinns - 1985 Schwinn Peloton. I used to drool over the Schwinn catalog for one of these when I was younger and found one in almost my size a month ago. It's a 50cm TT, I tend to ride 52cm. I am still playing around with stems to use. I do have the original Cinelli stem, but it is too short.

Owner replaced some parts with modern Shimano indexing, such as a right DT shifter, rear derailleur and front derailleur. Got them all replaced with Suntour Superb Pro. Wheels were replaced with clinchers. Dura Ace hubs and Ambrosia 19 Extra rims, not bad.

Man that Peloton is beautiful @cfernandez

Reminds me of the '85 I had, albeit in 25" frame form. The paint color is sublime, and it was a snappy rider. Maybe I should try and get it back...

1980 Schwinn Voyegeur 11.8 period correct upgrade

I love how this bike came out. It's got 1055 rear and front derailleurs, Shimano 300 Exage 7 speed SIS shifters, 1055 crank (170mm), new Tektro R737 brakes, 600 Tri Color hubs and campy rims, SR 100mm stem (matches original but longer reach), Uno seat post to replace the stock one that got destroyed taking it out. Really nice ride.

Haven’t ever seen one in those colors.

I’d like to find a low priced (uhm..free) 25” Tempo frameset to build up with an old school look.

Both would be tough to find...

There was a 27"/68.5cm one in black and gold for sale in Portland a few years ago. Wait, it was a 1982 Voyageur SP, nevermind. But yeah, a 1983 Super Sport SP is on the list, along with most anything else high-end Schwinn in 1983. The paint schemes and graphics were unique.

On the topic of late-80s Schwinns, another 1989 Tempo would be excellent, just in a 25" size and not the juuuust too small 24" size like I had. Early biking days nostalgia!

Posting by request, for a massive thread bump.

My Schwinn Tempo, maybe 85? I really enjoy this one, it feels light, responsive and is generally fun.

Adding a 1987 LeTour I picked up about 3 weeks ago.

23" frame, True Temper double butted main tubes

Wheels changed out from 27 to 700c.

I like that it accepts 700x38 tires and has a smooth stable ride.
