Michelin Carbon vs. Pro Race

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Michelin Carbon vs. Pro Race

A local LBS has the Michelin Carbon and Pro Race on sale. Does any one have any feed back on these tires? I am going to us these tires for every day training. The only thing I have heard is that the Pro Race are very supple, but do they cut and flat easily?

The Carbon is going to be less durable than the Pro Race. I rode a set of Pro Race tires an entire season two years ago.

Both are great tires. I got 3 pairs of the Pro Race tires on sale last week - less than half price!

The Carbon is also a great tire, a little heavier but wears like iron. I have one on the back wheel now which has indured a bunch of trainer hours plus road miles.

Michelin tires are the only tires that I have experience riding that I have recovered from a front wheel slide. Not to say other tires are not as good, but the Michelins saved my arse once, so I stick with them.

I hunt the race pro's out and use them on both my Klein and TCR. As per earlier responses the only tyres I trust in the rain. Also when pushing at insane speed down a mountain managed to keep it all togehter on these when they finally started to slip. Not scientific but certainly not my bike handling skills. They work a whole lot better for me than any other tyre I have tried, Hutchnsons and continentals.

The don't flat any more than other tyres I have tried and they last me about 6 months of 100miles a week, what ever that works out as.

I've got about 1500 miles on my carbon's. They look like they have plenty of life left. 0 flats to date as well. I will definitely be buying another pair when the time comes.

I use carbon for my training wheels as well and I have not had any problems with them. Definetely worth it.

My experience with Carbons is that they are a little bit heavier, a little less grippy, and much, much more durable than the Pro Races. I'm very happy with mine and will buy them again.

I use pro races as my racing and road training tires and I have the carbons on my fixie and the pro races turn better and roll better but the carbons last longer but are still overall very good so really either one is a good choice

i've got the pro races and have just under 1500 miles on this current set. love 'em! i'm tempted to get another set now that they're so cheap -- but i really like the new light grey color on the pro race 2s.

they seem to stick well in the rain, and corner very well. i've been pretty happy with this pair's durability thus far... i expect to get through another 1000 miles with them at this rate.

Been riding Pro Race for 2 years. Got about 3,000 miles out of back one before I changed it. It still had some life to it but it had a few cuts that were a bit too deep for my liking, plus it didn't owe me anything. Had maybe 3 flats during it's lifetime.

Front tire has over 5,000 miles on it and still alive and kicking. Can't recall it ever flatting (probbly will flat on me 6 times in 1 month just for saying that).

Plus as others have said they ride really well. Good road feel, handling and comfort.

I only have a few huundred miles on my Pro race tires so far, but they are a fast tire, and even after a good 3-400 miles, the rubber finishing strip in the center of the tire still hasn't fully worn off yet.

I've had both and agree with Caloso. Carbons are great for everyday - light, durable and able to deal with the rough conditions I encounter on my commute. My experience with Pro Race was that they were lighter and better for special rides, but the commute tore them up.

Strangely enough, I have a "retired" set of Pro Races on my commuter, lined with Tuffy Strips, which make them heavier than the Carbons.

The CArbon is a fine tire for most people - most of the time.

It is also probably the most durable, highest mileage tire on the market.

I really like the Pro Races and would recommend for fast training rides and racing. I haven't tried the Carbons yet so I have no feedback on them.

My Pro Race tires hold the road very well, I made the mistake of using them on my Performance rollers (that have arough surface but great for the $) and left rubber on the rollers within 10 minutes! Now I use a cheap set from Kenda.

I have over 1000 miles on my Carbon tyres. 800 of those are trainer miles. I raced them this past weekend. They worked well for me - grippy and safe. My real race bike will run Conti GP3000 tyres, but I think the Carbon's are a pretty damn good all-round tyre.

Carbons on the back for the past 1050 or so. Just starting to square a little. I am ~175lbs.
and Race Pro's on the front. Very happy.

Was doing Gp3000 Contis before, and they seemed to be wearing faster. Hard comparison with summer and winter riding (winter has more sand and grit around here). I like the Michelins which are the ones I've been using through the winter..

Is that set-up on purpose? I'm thinking that might be a good compromise between durability and suppleness.

Yes. I put the carbon on the back on purpuse since the back always gets more wear. Was burning through GP3000's on the back very fast. The front lasts me much longer, so I like the better cornering performance... blah, blah, blah.

carbons for training
Pro Race 4 racing.

carbons last longer.
The Pro race is light supple and fragile on really rough roads.
