Weekend or Daily ?

The objective here is to loose weight. I ride Saturdays 60 or 70 miles ans 40 on Sunday, this is not working as far as loosing wt. In the past I did 1 hr. of rollers 4 times a week and that seemend a better way to gain fitmess and loose wt.

Any thoughts on this ?

Weight is controlled in the kitchen, fitness at the gym.

If your goal is to lose weight, how are you controlling your caloric intake?

Riding more will burn more calories. It's also a lot more fun than dieting, and will make you a faster cyclist.

You live in LA. Why on earth would you be using rollers?

Exercising regularly usually works best for weight loss. You're riding on Saturdays and Sundays, but what are you doing on the other days of the week? Are you going for brisk walks? Weightlifting? Swimming?

If you are going to limit yourself to weekend rides, then you've really got to watch what you eat. Use a program like Fit Day or the Daily Plate to track what you currently eat, and learn where you can make changes. And add in some daily exercise, even if it is just 30 minutes of brisk walking every day.

I'd probably keep with your weekend schedule and add 10-15 mile rides Tuesday-Friday. Or maybe Monday-Thursday. Whichever feels better or just mix it up from week to week. A day off is always nice, although I ride at least 8 miles almost every single day because I commute that much during weekdays.

Having that 45 mins to an hour exercise almost daily should help keep metabolism higher.

That and the food thing others have mentioned.

Also try a day or two with a half hour of swimming or something like that to work out other parts of the body.

Generally better to make it a lifestyle, as this reinforces positive behaviors on a daily basis. You're more likely to be attentive to diet, sleep, and other factors if exercise is a part of your daily routine.

Fitness is definitely built more by consistency than by doing a lot on the weekends.

It's too easy to eat it back if you don't workout almost daily. I find daily workouts to be the easiest way to control my diet. There was a thread on here describing how experienced athletes automatically practice portion control. This is also my experience. +1 for riding outside. I lose more weight riding outside than on rollers, don't know quite why, but I suspect it's just easier to ride more hours when it's fun. On rides of 1-2 hours, try not to eat much on the bike, just a little sports drink, then have a small recovery drink or other carby snack when you get back. 2 hour rides melt it off.
