Originally the leather was made from the antelope. In the UK at least to be sold as a chamois leather, it needs to be either from an actual chamois or from a mountain sheep.

My dad used to use one to dry cars after washing, never knew they were so exotic :-).

The year was 2000. I was in the midst of a solo tour from Seattle to Cortez, CO. In a bar in Jeffrey City, WY I found myself talking with a one-legged woman about such things as the collapse of the uranium market and eating antelope meat. Her husband would hunt them and freeze the meat for the winter.

Jeffrey City was establish in the 50s to support uranium mining inn the area. When the bottom fell out of the uranium market in the early 80's the town started its decline. When I was there, the only things open were a small convenience store/gas station, the post office, a motel run by a grumpy, chain smoking old woman who only took cash and a café/bar. The only paved road was the U.S. highway that ran through the center of town. Still standing were the barracks-style units that were erected to house the miners and their families. One was labeled for single men only. In the summer, the wind routinely blows a steady 30 mph or more. I had to lean sharply into the wind while walking from the motel to the café for lunch The waitress told me that the wind wasn't even that bad that day.

The motel has since closed. One cyclist who stayed there shortly before the closing reported that the first room he checked into had mushrooms growing out of the carpet. When I hit the road early the next morning I saw antelope grazing in the surrounding ranchland.

I think it just records your longest ride so yeah... not really sure what the point is! Did 2:30 yesterday and got my "badge" and did 3:20 today and it updated. Tomorrow should be a doozy, we'll see.

Nothing is obvious with you. I stuck with the standard tin bike from backroads (which is tres comfortable, by the way, even with ****ty 23mm tires pumped up to 110 psi)

Pictures require processing. Which requires Lightroom / Photoshop, which I do NOT have on my work laptop, whch is doing no work at all right now, just serving as a conduit to the external back up drive I bought.

So keep your damn shorts on.

PS Ultegra... meh. Not all it's cracked up to be.
