Why are roadies going 1x11 or 1x12?

I think with friction shifters and old school front derailleurs you probably had enough adjustment you could get it to work. Just guessing though.

^^^ Da Vinci tandems makes (or at least until very recently made) 4-speed front shifting, and they used Campagnolo (non-Powershift) Ergos to make it work on drop bar bikes, or grip shifters on flat. But they have a 2:1 reduction from the timing rings to the freewheels on the non drive side so they don't need such a huge overall tooth range, they might be stacked more narrowly than a regular triple too.

It's not that. To figure out 2 chainrings and 11 or 12 cogs requires skills like multiplication and division or at least recognition of the concepts. A 1X means just needing to be able to count to 12, a skill still taught in school and that most master.

And as at least one poster on this thread has pointed out, life is better the fewer skills needed and dexterity maneuvers required. (The ultimate bike will have wireless shifting, input from brain directly activating the shift. No tedious hand actions required.)

No roadies are not going 1x , I have one x but I prefer 2x10 , 1x just means you matched your gears to the road so you don't need gears for the unknown it offers no real advantage on the road, maybe a few saved grams , but the loos of efficiency is greater than any gains .

I use a 1x on my primary bike that I use around home. My other road bike has a 53/39 with a 12-25 for when I may need low gears.

No I think you guys are just not funny or likeable. Sometimes I wonder if this forum is just a bunch of bitter old men posting fake strava stories. Anyways deflated the tires on the madone a little and noticed an improvement in ride quality.

You could put a more compliant spring in the future shock, should improve the ride (hey, if it's a make believe bike I don't see why you can't have future shock on a Trek).

The "Madone" could use a front suspension fork and a 750 watt e-conversion. Maybe relieve the chainstays and squeeze in some 38s. I will agree that most of us couldn't match the OP on a scale! Looking forward to a nice ride today on a real bike on real roads with a real Strava.

Lol why do you guys question that I own a madone. It was a close out demo model hence the $1900 price tag. Reading comprehension will save us time folks get a clue.

I am already thinking about returning it though and getting a Lynskey instead. I talked to the LBS and he said it would be ok but I have to do it by next week.

The madone is terrible compared to the vortex.

a pic of my stuff all you guys are gonna do is make fun of my bar height since Iím still working on fitness and flexibility. Oh and you do the same Indy fabz wouldnít be surprised if both of you ride on 90s trek single track mtbs rather than the bikes you claim

LOLZ! How can I post a photo of my bike with a noodle soup note by it?

And, BTW, I put my '91 Trek 930 out in the alley with some trash. It had been gathering dust in my mom's garage after taking more than a decade of abuse with barely a complain. She was getting ready to sell the house and I was helping her clean it out. Bike was gone in a few hours. Hope it found a nice second home.

Here is my touring/commuting ride on Yaak River Rd. in MT last month. @datlas has seen me riding that bike in that configuration. Maybe if I have nothing better to do this evening I'll post the photo of me astride the bike that appeared in connection with a "Great Falls Tribune" article about the $$ benefits Montana receives from cycle touring. You and others have already seen my Engin. I couldn't care less whether you believe me or not. You are amusing but insignificant to me.

While we are talking bikes, here is my Ti Habanero. I know the flipped up stem is not pro, but the builder said to make it with a longer head tube would limit fork choices. Life is full of compromises.
