Any cool small items to look for in Italy or Europe?
My son will be in Milan and I was wondering if there are any cool items like lights or other accessories that you know of available over there I can have him look for. No it has to be smaller than a Colnago :-)

I would look for a cycling cap (some cycle shops like Sergi Bianchi in Florence make their own) or a jersey. Look in street markets or vintage shops for cool retro woolen ones.

I'd go for stuff like REG bottles/cages, small parts...keep expectations lower. Folks over there know this stuff is valuable, it's not in buckets just awaiting discovery.

Just apply heat and pull tubing from lugs. Put into luggage and reapply heat once home. I would probably do vintage cycling clothing.

A friend bought a Lambretta scooter in Italy, and managed to disassemble and pack it home in carry-on and checked luggage. Just saying.

I thought I'd share the items my son picked up for me while he was in Europe.
Milano Bianchi cap, Brooks mud flap and book and card from their flagship store in London, TDF t-shirt, and a tube of Italian polish. I think I will earmark the mudflap for my drop bar Panasonic ATB when I get fenders for it since it will take a pretty wide fender to mount it to.

I don't get the Colnago and Masi love. Great bikes but we know those brands because of their decisions to focus on the US market and advertising through the bike boom era. I'd have been looking for Olmo stuff. Vintage Italian in Italy is probably like skis in Colorado, worthless if it's beyond latest/greatest stuff. Every thruft store in Colorado has skiis salable in say New England, where they'd bring the skiis back to Colorado!

Half hoods you can get in black and gum through VO, but the adjusters are hard to find.

Look on eBay france and italy. For Italy, search for "annata bicicletta", for France, search for "velo ancien". There are a lot of sellers that won't ship to the US, those that do will charge a lot for a small item. Shipping within the EU is relatively cheap. Also there are a lot of items for local pickup only.

I can think of lots of stuff to pick up in Northern Europe (Hebie Chainglider and B&M lights in Germany, Reellights in Denmark, various chaincases in the Netherlands), but not so much in Italy. But with the current exchange rate he should find lots of deals on whatever he likes. Me, I'd buy shoes.
