1x Ultegra Build
Hello all,
I’m currently building a 1x setup with a shimano Ultegra RD-6700 GS 10 speed rear derailleur and am wondering if anyone has any knowledge as to what size cassette I can put on there. Looking to put something around a 11-30 or 11-32 and am wondering what is possible! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks much!

I did look at that thread, but there wasn’t any information regarding a 1x setup. Will having no front chainring difference change my max in the back or is a 30t the highest I can get it?

Classic Cyclocross 1 , 42t chainring, 12 -27t cassette .. without a difference between 2 sizes of chainring ,
the chain wrap up is just the difference 27-12
so perhaps an Ultegra RD for a triple crank, with the triple crank minus outer & inner chainringsshould be fine....
(Circa 90, I used an early Chorus & a 14-34t freewheel)

With 1x you are still stuck with the Rear Cog limit unless you do something like a Road Link.

I am running a 34 on a 6700 with a fully extended b screw. Shifts great but clearly maxed for sure. The GS can handle 39t so theoretically 11 - 50 could work with a road link.

Non omnino gravis
I wouldn't recommend going any bigger than a 36T. The 6700GS will clear it, but just doesn't have enough spring tension in it-- with a chain long enough to wrap a 40 or 42 in front and a 36T in the back, when you're in the small cogs (like the 12T) the chain flaps all over the place.
Unless you're only riding on glassy smooth surfaces, if you're going 1X, use a clutched derailleur. Source: started by building a 1X with 6700 gear, ended up with SRAM Rival.
