It is a new year and what is left on your C&V "Grail" list to acquire??
I am now up to 10 bikes in my stable and I really need to be picky on what bike (which could be the last one) to add to my stable.
It would be Gitane's Columbus tube, Pro Replica from 83ish. I'm afraid I would be jello in a seller's hands as it could be the last C&V acquisition I would make, and also the fact that I had been searching for this bike for sooo many years now with no luck finding one in the condition and price I can accept.
Dabbled recently with the possibility if finally owning a Cinelli Supercorsa, but the planets did not line up for me at that time, so I had to let that one slip away from me.
So, I start this year with an open eye towards finally finding that Gitane Pro of my dreams, but sometimes I think that it could be good to have that "Moby Dick" bike out there, unacquired. To maybe keep the C&V juices flowing as like many say, the biggest fun in most things is the hunt for it(?).....

At my age, nothing more to acquire, just maintain and fix up what I have (house, cars, bikes, appliances, etc.). In particular, I really do need to get the Sieger back together and on the road, since it's such a rare and distinctive bird.

I think the only grail bike I ever wished for was a Masi Gran Criterium, and I have one now. I might budge if I could find a really cool Mercier, but that isnt a grail bike - more an object of curiosity.

No super-defined Grail Bike on my list, especially considering 1) what I have and 2) the lack of space for more...from a practical point of view.............BUT............a late '70s or early '80s Trek 6xx, 7xx, 9xx, or 170 race bike at an acceptable price in 64cm / 25.5" would make its way into my possession without much trouble. I've had an '83 970 frame, which was flawless save for the need for standard reach calipers (just a bit too long for short reach) and the red/yellow "McDonalds" paint scheme. Essentially any other color combo would be something I'd be fine with, but red/yellow...sigh. At any rate, those early '80s high-end Trek racers have a mystique about them. Maybe I'm a sucker for catalog pictures...

I tend to pick up whatever is cheap (or free), and available. I'm not seeking anything out; but bikes find me. I'd be much more interested in pursuing high-end, grailish acquisitions after I get rid of eight or ten of my perfectly good, mid-grade, 100% rideable regulars.

I really can't justify another road bike, but if a 63cm Dave Moulton Fuso popped on the local craigslist, I would be tempted. Check out his bike registry, and the number of original owners. It's cool that Dave still blogs and keeps tabs on the frames he built.

Many, varied bikes might turn my head, but 'grail' would have to be a Mariposa randonneur ca. 1970s-1980s, or Mariposa racer ca. 1970s.

@Poguemahone has it right. I am always scouting, than my interest grows in what I come across. I got a PX10 recently, not on my mental-grail "list". But I saw the workmanship, the lugs,...man, thats a nice bike; had to have it.
I have a list, the usual Herse, Singer, etc. But what are the chances I'll come across one of those at a reasonable price.
So, I keep searching. I love the hunt.

Agreed (even with my post above). This year, it's time to just ride the bikes I have, and ride them everywhere. Sell the stuff I already have for sale and focus things elsewhere, as much as a bicycle enthusiast can. Component shuffles will happen, though that's the other goal is to still the waters in that area. I have about a handful of bikes that are either 'frozen' or nearly frozen in their composition. No messing with the magic. Only one "big" project that I will let take its sweet time--and the frameset was acquired a few months ago before my bike/frame cutoff.
We're still going to the Seattle Bike Swap in February though, right?
