Oregon Handmade Bicycle Show Canceled for 2018

BUT, there will be a last hurrah at Velo Cult Saturday August 18th 12 - 6pm with Oregon Bicycle Constructors show and demo's to show the love for what VC has brought to the table for PDX.

A Framebuilder's Goodbye to VeloCult

Free 2018 OBCA Framebuilder Showcase at VeloCult
1969 NE 42nd Ave, Portland OR
Saturday August 18th, 2018
Noon till 6pm

Please join the Oregon Bicycle Constructors Association as we host the final event at VeloCult before they wind down. There will be fun examples of local, national and international bicycle frame builders displaying one of their finest machines. We plan a low key opportunity to meet and chat with builders, see examples of the craft of custom frame building showcasing a number of different styles. There will be builders showing traditional lugged steel construction techniques, fillet brazing and TIG welding, titanium welded construction and an aluminum builder to round out the current material offerings. Each builder is a master and would enjoy answering your questions about how they could craft your next dream bicycle. The current builder list includes:
Ketelaar Frame Works

Jeffrey Bock Custom Cycles

Strawberry Cyclesport

Mahall Bikeworks

Put this fun event on your calendar, come out and see what’s new, traditional and just plain well done in the frame construction world. We hope this will be a fitting send off for VeloCult as they focus on spreading their unique view on bicycle culture through their online endeavors. The OBCA is forever indebted to Sky and the VeloCult team for what they have brought to the Portland bicycle scene and the bicycle industry as a whole. VeloCult closing leaves a huge void in our community…you will be missed.

@Jeff Wills - Are recumbent bikes allowed on the event route in Vancouver? Since you’re posting it, I presume they are. I’d do this event in a second.

I was surprised to read that the "low levels of interest" referred to the frame building community. I felt like last year's show suffered from lack of promotion. I went but almost by accident because I hadn't heard about it until the day before. I asked a friend if he wanted to go for a ride, and he said, "Sure. Can we end up at OHBS?" I know the vendors have to put a lot of work into these shows. It's sad that they feel like this one hasn't been worthwhile.

For you, we'll pave the route with pink & white crocheted doilies.

Everyone is welcome. A couple years ago there was an old guy on a recumbent trike (no, not me) towing a Golden Retriever in a trailer. He completed the 38 mile route before nightfall.

I thought that your trip to Eastern Oregon was to quench the flames, not feed them...

The N+1 rule (with the D-1 addendum) is absolute. There is no defense against it. That said, I seriously doubt I'll be buying any of the bikes at VC. Most of the ones I'd really want are likely beyond my impulse buying comfort zone, even at liquidation prices.

Good turnout for the framebuilders goodbye to VC show, still going on. A beautiful Strawberry. Had a nice chat with the Circa guy. Breadwinner and TiCycles were there, and five or six other builders brought bikes.

Free beer. Actually, it was buy a VC glass and beer is free.

good crowd for the VC last hurrah
