After a few commutes with my new mountain-commuter setup, I realize how wide the handlebars are, and the bar ends make it seem even worse. Still, it is very comfortable to ride. I have seen plenty of other commuter setups here like this one; Does anyone else ride a similar setup through crowded streets? I wonder if a narrower flat bar would be more practical.

I love doing up old bikes for commuting and over the years I have arrived at this as my every day commuter. Built from 'best bits' salvaged off old bikes, and some new parts - saddle & post, tyres, grip tape. The hat box is part of the commuter - an 'aero' trunk.
The gear levers work nicely even when wearing thick gloves. The suicide brake levers work beautifully in combination with the cantilevers, so I have good brakes from any hand position.

My Daily...
Here's mine - 1996 KHS mountain bike. Stripped, painted, chopped bars and ends, Crank Bros. pedals, Mavic Cross Ride wheels. Commute between 5-15 miles daily and take CalTrain from the Peninsula to SF. Owned the bike since new, crashed it multiple times both on and off the dirt and it keeps taking the beating.

So does the greater sweep of the handlebars allow you to be more upright? I've been thinking about something different from the stock Breezer ones.

I don't have much of a commute right now (1.6 miles one-way) but this is generally what I do it on. 2006 RANS Fusion, with a home-made rear rack and kickstand. I've got a recumbent for longer-distance riding.
