1986 Bridgestone 450? Chain, cassette, hub questions
I just picked up a 1986 Bridgestone 450. Intending to replace the chain but keep the Shimano Z-012 "cassette," can i use a KMC Z33NP i have in my stash? It's rated for 5/6 speed. The Bridgestone is a 6-speed but has an early Shimano indexing downtube lever system (Shimano S 424 SIS, according to a brochure). Original spec chain is supposed to be a Shimano UG (Ultraglide, i assume).
Also, is this 14-28 "cassette" a freehub design? from what i've read, it should be so, due to the year.
And the hubs... the front has a "Sealed System" label, the rear does not. Are these easily serviced loose bearings? Is the "sealed" system simply a rubber dust cap on the end? the rear appears to be so.
Of course, I may figure all of this out once i start disassembling things but wanted to ask some questions here. Thanks for any info or tips you can offer. I have handlebar tape, new hoods for the Dia Compe brake levers coming, and plan to replace the brake cables and housing. I should get this rideable soon. The frame's white paint is marked up a bit, but overall the bike seems in decent shape.

The z33 chain is not designed for index shifting. Get a KMC Z51, or a Sram PC 830, it will shift better. If you have, or know someone that has Amazon Prime account, the PC 830 is $10 shipped.
If the wheels are original to the bike it should be a threaded freewheel, not a cassette. There were 6 speed cassettes, but the only one I remember seeing was Dura Ace.
Yes, a "sealed system" hub is usually a rubber seal with regular bearings.
Nice bike!
The catalog says they're Sansin sealed mechanism hubs, those might be cartridge bearings.

Thanks! I actually have a SRAM PC 830 in my stash, bought years ago, forgot-about, and never used. lol
