My modernized Crosscut
Her she is . I’m finished except for the pedals . I may take it to a local bike shop and pay them to remove them for me .

I really like the older hybrids like this. What all did you do to it?

About all that’s original is the frame with bottom bracket with cranks and the seatpost.
The pedals are original and are stuck pretty good . I hope to swap them out for some lightweight platforms .
Rides great . Shifts like butter .
I’ve done a lot of similar work on my early 90’s Schwinn Crisscross except it has old wheels . I may spring for a new set of wheels for it next month . Although they ride straight and true .
Both frames are Chrome Moly and the bikes are fairly light compared to everything else I own . I think around 27-28 lbs . Never weighed them , but that’s what I’ve read in the Schwinn Spec sheet .

For your stuck pedals, spray them with some PB Blaster then give your pedal wrench a good whack with a wood mallet. I've been able to remove stubborn pedals in the past with this method.

Swapped out my saddle for a Brooks B-67 this morning. It’s a little on the heavy side but was fairly comfortable riding today . May adjust the nose up a little to keep from sliding forward so easily before the next ride .

Did you ever get the pedals off? It doesn't look like it.

Got a new B-67 for my CrossCut , one of the aged ones . Tried it out for 10.5 miles today . I think I’m going to like it. The black B-67 will be going on another bike .

Upgraded my Crosscut today . Ever since I bought it ,over ten years ago , I’ve been trying to move the old beat up cage pedals from the cranks .
I’ve ruined more wrenches trying to get them off and neither side has moved a micro .
I ruined a new $20 pedal wrench yesterday.
So I got to thinking , why not change out the cranks ? Then I can put whatever pedals I want on it .
I also have been toying with the idea of going to a 1x8 drivetrain and eliminate the front derailleur and shifter .
I rarely shift out of the middle chainring anyway.
Today , I borrowed a set of Shimano Hybrid cranks off another bike that had removable chainrings and installed them and a 36 tooth oval wide narrow chainring on the CrossCut .
Installed a set of pedal extenders and a set of platform pedals .
Then took her for a test ride .
I’m in LOVE .
With this setup , I get to use those middle gears that used to be at the top end spinning down hill to get the mo to get up the next hill .
Riding around the the neighborhood , I got up to sixth gear and purposely approached a few hills slow so I could try out the new low gear . Wow! I just spin right on up the hills .
I‘m going to ride the Crosscut for a week or so , but I’m thinking I may be I’m going to be going 1x8 on my CrissCross and 1x7 my Specialized Hardrock .

If you keep the setup, be sure to shorten the chain for slicker shifting and better chain retention. Rear brake loop is too long; saddle is not level also.

I liked my Crosscut as a 1X drivetrain, I decided to change my CrissCross to 1X.
We just had a rain shower , so it’ll be tomorrow before I can try it out properly.
This one has a 11-34 cassette. With a 34 oval wide narrow up front , I should be able to climb any hill around here .
BTW , I like my saddles right where they’re at .

I find that a Brooks set perfectly level, keeps me in one spot, comfortably!
