I was forced to watch Jurassic World and Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom. The triumph of CGI over anything else. 3/10.

Sign O' the Times, 1987 Prince Concert filmed and recorded in 1987 in Rotterdam and Paisley Park, Minnesota. 10/10. It had been years since I watched my 1987 VCR version of this outstanding video production. The VCR version is in 4 x3 pan and scan format, though the sound is outstanding because it was recorded on the VCR tape in Hi-Fi Stereo.
Streaming now for free on Hoopla which is available on TV with my Roku and local library card. The streaming version is in 16 x 9 wide frame format. Prince at his best, singing, dancing leading the whole ensemble, just great stuff.

Been Around Awhile
The Outpost, war movie on Netflix. Based on true events that occurred at Combat Outpost Keating in Afghanistan in 2009. Very good movie 8.5+. Do not watch (or listen to any soldier conversations) if you are easily offended by the casualness of crude and vulgar "bro" talk.
Highly recommend reading the book on which it is based, The Outpost An Untold Story Of American Valor written by Jake Tapper. I read it several years ago and it is shocking about how vulnerable that Outpost always was and it never should have been established.

Tenet - 9/10. Lots of flash bang but an overly complicated plot and about 90 percent of the dialog was understood. I'll see it again if it comes to Amazon Prime with subtitles.

Out of the several movies I've seen on the TV over the last few weeks, I'll give a short run down of the ones I watched all the way through.
Beyond the Mask - A really lame romance novel movie. Watched it with the wife and we made jokes about it most of the way through. 2 out of 10.
The Devil's Arithmetic - So much potential, but a really bland fictional story with the Holocaust as the background. 3 out of 10.
War Horse - A tear jerker family movie with excellent cinematography. A predictable flick for older moviegoers, but it is a good film to watch with family aged 8 years and above. 7 out of 10.
Scene of the Crime - A forgettable Film Noir cop flick. Let down by its plot that tried to be interesting, but wasn't. 3.5 out of 10.

I watched The Maiden Heist on the Roku the other night.
It's a story of a trio of near retirement age guys wanting to steal art they have grown attached to before it ships away to Europe. A fine cast, but a slow and forgettable movie. Seems like the only one acting in this movie was Marcia Gay Harden. 4 out of 10 stars.

Fantastically whimsical yet heart-warming and tragic story of a quirky American Jew attempting to trace his grandparents' experience in Nazi-occupied Ukraine with a couple of amusing locals.
Bonus for the excellent soundtrack.

I watched The Unsuspected last night on the antenna TV.
An interesting flick about a radio host that tells crime stories and his manipulation of others while murders are taking place nearby. Parts of the movie reach 10 out of 10 status, with others down to 6 out of 10. Overall, I'll say it's an 8 out of 10 for those that like old movies like this.

A movie about a couple, sailors, who were ferrying a boat from Tahiti to San Diego and got caught in Hurricane Raymond. It's a many times done over storyline but the cinematography makes up for the movies predictability. I give it a solid 6/10.

I sat inside all day yesterday dealing with Sinusitis. So I took in a couple movies on VUDU.
First one was The Hunter with Willem Dafoe. The scenery of Tasmania was fantastic. The story of professional "hitmen" acting as hunters was weird but familiar feeling. It was a passable movie to watch while feeling ill, but not great. I'll say 5.5 out of 10.
The second was an old Soviet silent flick from 1925. Battleship Potemkin. A interesting movie for history buff types or for those that like to see how things were done in the early days of film. It's an epic of a movie about a mutiny of an Imperial Russian battleship in 1905. I'll say 7 out of 10 for this one.

I just saw the 2019 Tom Hooper film of Andrew Lloyd Weber's musical Cats.
I almost threw up in my mouth. I saw the Broadway stage production 30-something years ago and proclaimed it the Worst. Musical. Ever. This movie is even worse.
Where to start? I guess my biggest beef is an almost arbitrary combination of eye-poppingly effective special effects -- e.g., the CGI ears and tails on all the cats -- with super lame-o cheesy barely-worthy-of-a-1950s-horror-film special effects -- e.g., when the cats are dancing along the railroad ties, or whenever the mice appear, or any time the director attempts to show scale by having the actors in front of greenscreen backdrops...which is like 99% of the movie.
And the casting?!?! Kill me now. Francesca Hayward was the only positive note. Judy Dench gets a pass (barely) for being able to keep a straight face throughout. Everyone else I felt embarrassed for.
