Apparently this is a big problem in Newport Beach California, where seals/sea lions get onto moored boats via the swim step, and due to the number, swamp the boats.

On a slightly related note, I was once trapped at the far end of a visitors' dock in San Diego, when a large sea lion took up temporary residence across the dock... effectively cutting off traffic on the dock. You do not mess with large sea lions.

Wouldn't surprise me actually if there were scented logs that smelled like flatulence and made farting noises as they burned. (No, I'm not looking that up, I'm happy to leave that as "speculation".)

I'd probably not realise it was the log and start looking for the bucket of chicken whilst quietly cursing my friends for either hiding the chicken or finishing it before I arrived.

^ I'm guessing that its all about the "deal" between the sender and the courier company, making it cheaper to just use the one size box if they can.

Regarding packaging, I bought two 32 tablet bottles of 82g aspirin. I combined the two bottles in to one and drew an arrow where the contents come to.

You probably could have bought a 500 count bottle for the same price as two of the 32 count ones.

It might actually make sense to have one size bottle and fill it with different amount. People might also prefer having not too small a bottle.

This is interesting. It's not like they don't use smaller boxes. Anyway, Amazon (I guess) isn't stupid. That is, while it doesn't make sense from our side, it almost has to make sense from their side.

Regarding the oversize boxes: I was volunteering at a toy drive this past Christmas that accepted cash donations over the internet. We used that to buy a lot of stuff through Amazon, including ear buds (they're popular among early-teen kids?). We ordered about 20 sets and they all came in their own packaging; each 3"x3"x1" ear bud box in an Amazon box about 12"x12"x6". Lots of other examples like that, too. That was a crazy amount of excess cardboard and filler packaging we had to dispose of.

Re amazon, I have read in recent times that the automation process that they use in their warehouses brings boxes already with barcode by one robot to a human, then the merchandise from another robot is brought to said human and they better get it packed and taped lickety split with a computerized stopwatch over their head or they are soon replaced. No time to consider the size of boxes.

I have that happen with a prescription, 90 small tablets in a bottle that could easily hold 1000 tablets. Bottles are made in standard sizes, and the company using them may be trying to limit the different types of bottles and other packaging they have in their warehouse/on their shelves. Its easier to put a different label on a bottle rather than have more storage space for infrequently used sizes of bottles. .

I just opened a new 500 tablet bottle of low-dose aspirin. I think is is the same size as this one, and it is half full.
