Actually, Impulsive is not an inclusive enough term.

Also include things like:

What happens when you are on a vintage roll?
What happens when you indulge that old desire? Today.
What happens when you feel the vintage call? Right now.

I dunno, maybe the Italian-ness

Maybe i just like the sound of the word condorino

Perhaps I looked at this picture one too many times.

And own a poorly fitting bike like this.
Short top tube with 14+cm stem = yucky solution replicating a good road position

or maybe just impulsive. but under $75usd delivered from Italia (the condorino bars).

Interesting. That might solve a problem with my errand bike. It has an unusual stem diameter with very little reach. so it's difficult to fit for longer rides. Rather than trying to find an obscure stem with longer reach, a Condorina bar or something similar might do the trick.

And I see Soma's Condorina bars are wider than the older traditional bars, so there's room to trim if desired, or leave 'em wide.

Quite ironic. Didn't somebody once way back when suggest such a solution? Say, I don't know, in post #10 here ?

As for my latest impulse buy (oh there have been many!) these just cleaned up nicely:

A second Batavus Randonneur GL that I am very likely never going to use.

Same thing goes for the Stronglight 107 triple. Fairly cheap from French eBay.

Hubs, lots and lots of Sturmey Archer hubs.

For me, this whole thing stated with a €20 impulse buy:

"Lemme see if Google can tell me how to fix this thing ..<click, click> ... *vintage derailleur" <click> ...... What's a Bikeforums? <click, click> ...... <click> ... <click> ... Hahaha! ...... <click><click> .... Ow, that's nice ....."

Many more impulse buys and wasted hours followed.

You know what's even better than a 1984 Raleigh Competition 12?

Two Raleigh Competition 12's!

My new (to me) "Street Beast": 1998 Trek Y11. The Maxxis "Holy Roller" tyres finally arrived after being stuck in a port because of Brexit.

Got my cameras front and rear, now she's ready for the street.

Actually, it just shipped from Italy, and the Truth of its' Value is still an experiment.
I have cheapie new bars, new brake levers and old stem to try the possibility of such close-in/up bars.

But vintage condorino bars from Italia , So classic.
An oldie ahead of its' time = integrated bar/stem/lever combo!
And justa looka sooo nice and make me feel sooo good.
Impulsive?

you betcha....

It took 2 Impulsives to nab this one. Missed getting it on CraigsList around Xmas. But succeeded in New Year when it reappeared. Really had to have Galli gold. Perfect fit too. Super Value buy, imho.

And I already have black bikes, but not quite like a made in America by a craftsman’s hands.

NOS on Ebay and accepted Buy It Now - $100.00 shipped, crank, cotters, rings, and bottom bracket - all original and all new when I got them...

The head set, again Legnano but this one was used, showed up on Ebay for a very low price. I bought it immediately. The seller asked to be allowed to cancel the deal because he made a mistake in the price. I objected but felt bad about it. He said he understood and that he would get the head set mailed the next day (he could have just cancelled). At that point, I offered to pay more but he refused. An honest man, to say the least...

The owner of a local bike shop needed a set of Campy Record high flange hubs for his Cinelli. I swapped him a polished set that I had, for a complete dirty Campy high flange wheel set that he had come in with an old ALAN. Turned out the hubs were kinds special - a fluke and, yup, Legnano again...

And, my biggest impulsive purchase ever (remember, I often get bikes for free - locally), a late fifties Rabeneick frame and fork...

And my latest impulsive buy has not arrived - yet (pics might follow)...

Whatta memory from 18 months ago. Hats off!
i'm still in need of a good solution for a project that has lingered, lingered, lingered. like a strong cheese.

Maybe you planted the seed and i'm just too forgetful to remember.

So here are some of the most impulsive that were all silly/placeholders when bought, all were successful in bringing proper size ones into the realm.

I still have a couple of French bikes that need my attention. Both were bought because they were bikes I would actually ride but mainly they were $20 and my size at 25”. I figured I would finish the Moto this winter once rainy season started. I am still waiting for winter. I went for a ride at lunch yesterday, it was about 72 at the beach! I have the frames ready for refurb and all the parts bagged and tagged but they sit there waiting for me. I even bought the tires for them but they really need cleaning up before I ride them.
