Greetings from the road! Here is a quick shot of Mariah after a few hundred miles so far. She is handling everything very well. NC Bike Tour 2008 (80).jpg
By the way I just wanted to point out how great it feels to ride along miles of smooth, wide shoulder like this: NC Bike Tour 2008 (39).jpg

My Cannondale T2000
My 2007 Cannondale T2000 on the Pine Creek rail trail in Pennsylvania this summer. Three days of light rain but a nice ride never the less.

i've noticed that alot of you guys have 3 water bottle cages. two on inside of the main triangle and one on the underside of the down tube. how do you attachet the 3rd water bottle to the under side of the downtube? do you use hose clamps or are you drilling your frame and adding thread pop rivets to it?

Some bikes are made with bosses underneath the downtube - my mountainbike doesn't have them so I used cable-ties to hold an extra-large bottle cage in place. It was solid - no need for metal hose clamps.

Here's a bigger version of the same pic so people can see your rig a little better.

I had more problems finding a place to put it when I was done.
It is more bulk than weight. I would do somethings different for sure, but that is why we tour.

what is the rack on the rear bob wheel? it almost looks like it might keep the suspension from moving freely.. probably just the perspective.

Green speed 16 inch I think. No it has metal arms which screw into the wheel section. That metal arm is missing in the shot. Since I didn't use it and my screws were coming loose. I dont think I have a close up that setup.

Hey Eric, I am actually only in Charleston right now, but I leave tomorrow morning to make my way down into Savannah. I have been spending too much time stopping to smell the roses and now I need to hurry before it gets too cold out. I am in a house full of really fun people who make it hard to say goodbye but I have itchy feet which want to get back on the open road. Anything happening as far as getting your house sold? I am thinking of spending the summer going across the country so if you make it out there we could ride together some of the way. Just a thought.

Yea, I have seen those before. I wasn't planning on hauling the guitar I got it in a trade along the way. I have plenty of time to learn something I have always wanted to learn so I figured I would go for it. I don't mind the extra weight because the joy of making music outweighs the inconvenience. Future tours will have a backpacking guitar on the pack list.

Here's my rig, comfortably posed at the summit of a long grade in the Sinai Pennisula of Egypt, somewhere between the Monastery of St. Catherine and the town of Nuweiba.

Ah!! I think I may have been on that road! In the back of a jeep, on the way to Dahab - would that be right?

Dear Kfir,
I carried up to two gallons, and asked a lot of Bedouin as to the location of the next water. And watched the goats - they know where's the water.
As for Al's question about the road to Dahab, it might be the same road - if you were starting at St. Catherine's. Dahab is south of Nuweiba, my destination that day, and ultimately I took the fork leading north. It is spectacular country, and if you don't mind a little isolation, very nice touring.
Yours,
