I just received 3 superb maps from the Delaware DOT bike & pedestrian office suitable for commuting in Dover and longer rides/tours in the rest of the state. More states should have maps like these, detailed and free.

Just curious, how did you obtain those maps? I didn't find anything on the website for free maps. Is their a number you called or address you wrote too? You'd think I'd know since I live in DE...

Try this: First do a Google search for DELAWARE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

On the first screen go to the bottom and click on site map

On the next screen look for Community Programs & Services and click on Maps

On the next screen click on Order Maps

You should now have an order form where you put in your snail mail address then scroll down a little bit and click to order the 3 free maps. Further down are maps you pay for

Ido not recall exactly how I got the maps. I hope this works for you.

Much appreciated, I had an idea for one for the whole country but did not have the computer skills, time, and money to do it. If your plans are compatible with the NY State-Wide maps you might get some cash to continue the good work. The LAB might have some ideas.

Hi Ken--

I plan to expand from NYC proper into the the bordering counties, but have my handsfull just trying to complete New York City. Due to the number of waypoints used in the map there are some substantial performance issues that must be resolved before adding more data.

What is the "NY State-Wide maps" & "LAB" you speak of?

LAB is the League of American Bicyclists, essentially The national Activism group.

The NY STate Department of Transportation has 3 sets of maps, online and for sale showing 3 cross-state routes. One is South-North NYC to Canada. The others are East - West. One near the Eire Canal and one near the Pennsylvania border.

Thanks to ODog and Gonzohill for adding more links. The thread LIVES!
