My Jersey smells!!

Anyone have a solution for washing synthetic material to get the smell out? Seems that as time marches on the smell is harder to eliminate.
Thanks!

Yea what do you Live down Wind of , it might Not be the Jersey.

Though the isle of Jersey off the French Coast I assume is Nice ..

they did breed a Different Dairy cow .. from their near by Island Neighbor Guernsey

and invented the Knit fabric that bears their Island's Name.

Pre-soaking in vinegar and water for a couple of hours should work, if you don't want to wash in vinegar. That way the actual wash gets rid of the vinegar smell.... Also, there are washing products that will kill the bacteria in the fabric, but vinegar is cheaper and more fun.

Wetsuits and kayaking/canoing gear gains an epic funk. You can either spend $$$ to get a super secret enzymatic cleaner ("Sink the Stink") or go to the pet store and get (enzyme based) dog urine remover concentrate. Soak the shirt in a diluted solution of that.

Or buy a new shirt.

When we used to cloth diaper, vinegar was the go to. Tide and Vinegar.

If that can get poop smell out, it can get your BO out.

Oxy-Clean! A half-scoop of that added to your wash will take the odors out of anything! Active ingredient is Hydrogen Peroxide. Attacks anything dead/organic. Works for mild oil stains as well. If oil stains persist pretreat with concentrated solution and then wash in HOT water and stain will be gone.

I am a big fan of hanging things out on the line. Kills odors, among other advantages. Maybe the UV kills everything in them.

when my one cycling shirt smells and you couldn't get rid of the smell i basically soaked it overnight in a diluted bleach solution in the bucket by the next day after a normal wash you wouldn't smell a thing because whatever bacteria that was living on your fibers is long dead.

alcohol. nothing grows on alcohol. I routinely use a diluted rubbing alcohol spray on my hockey equipment.
If there is a better way, I'd like to know.

after riding I let it dry before i put it in the hamper. I do wash it after every ride and air dry it. My wife uses regular laundry detergent and I haven't had an issue with smell.

Eliminate animal flesh from your diet, and wear a T-shirt under your jersey. Also, hydrogen peroxide (oxiclean is one source) or dilute conventional bleach (sodium hypochlorite) will oxidize and remove oils and kill anything living on them. I've never understood why cyclists shave their leg hair but won't cut or shave their arm pits. Those are a breeding ground for stench-creating bacteria.

Most the suggestions posted will remove or mask the smells. But a good airing is the best prevention. When possible I hang or set all my cycling gear in the sun on my deck to dry. Even my old cycling shoes still smell fresh because of this.

If I return home in or just before the rain/dark... I hang my kit in the garage or laundry room to dry.

+1. Ding ding ding, the right answer.
I always air mine out, but recently somewhere, somehow something went wrong. Anyway borax cured it.
I run in running clothes, then bike in biking clothes, then workout in a whole different set of clothes. My wife does the same thing. Borax is the key to fresher smelling clothes.
Best part is no extra steps needed other than to add it to your wash.
