Which tubes should I get for my H5 700Cx42 tires?
I need to re-stock some tubes for my 2015 Trek FX 7.2. I have H5 700Cx42 tires on it.

- Is there a recommended brand to get?
- What size range is best to target? I see a lot that are 35-40, 35-42, etc. Does it just need to be in the ballpark (and 700mm diameter of course)?

It should be in the ballpark in terms of the rated tire width, have the correct valve (probably Presta) and the correct valve length (at least not too short).
With these tires you do not need "ultralight" or other fancy tubes.

Ballpark is fine. I err on the smaller side, just to avoid any bunching up of tube material if it's too wide/large for the tire volume.

For those who use Schrader valves, Specialized make tubes with threaded Schrader valves, with the little nut just like Presta. I use those, and appreciate being able to more or less lock the valve stem to the rim. It prevents the valve stem from sinking down when checking pressure. I think they're about 6 bucks each at my local Specialized dealer, so very reasonable in price.

Schwalbe does that too , the ring holds the stem up, against a push on air compressor inflation head ..

I use whatever are available and/or cheapest in the LBS when I need them. I also use use Schrader valves; currently my bike has one Schwalbe tube with threaded stem and one generic tube without the locknut, and just yesterday bought another Schwalbe as back-up (would probably gone with a cheaper one, but it was the last one in the right size). The width rating was 28-47, I think (I run 38c tires). The threaded stems are nice, but not really necessary.
