I usually listen to old school techno mixtapes, happy hardcore, or newer industrial type techno stuff. I need the faster heart pumpin' type stuff, or nothing at all.
And I ride with in ear type phones, LOUD, so I dont hear **** else. Brakeless. Without a helmet. And weave through traffic. Only been hit by a car once, and that was my fault.
So there.

i stopped riding with music after i got in this one accident going dumb fast. i was listening to the first 10 seconds of an editors song, hit a pothole and went over the bars (all a blur); the next thing i know there are people all around me and the song is at the 1.5 minute mark. reeeeally disorienting.

I used to not ride with headphones but for my night rides I've gotten into the habit. Horribly unsafe, but I cant seem to stop myself. if I notice there's a bit more traffic than normal I'll take them off.
The Beta Band is really good because it's pretty ambient. I listened to a few Belle and Sebastian songs the other night. I just got back from a night ride and I listened to a bit of the Talking Heads but it was really busy tonight so I only got through 2 or 3 songs before I had to turn it off.
EDIT: And for some reason the Animal Collective seems to be absolutely perfect for bike riding.

Does it count to have headphones that don't block out any sounds, and keep them turned way down so that I can barely make out what I'm listening to if I'm going faster than 10MPH? Cuz that's what I normally do. The only problem is that when Megadeth comes on shuffle, it makes me go waaaay too fast. Hip hop gives me chill vibes and I ride much safer, indie rock makes my pants get tighter and my belt get whiter and Jimi makes me grin.

I'm too scared of riding my bike with headphones in. I think while riding a bike, all your senses should be at their fullest to avoid getting hit, plus, I have enough thoughts about life to ponder, so I never really get bored.
Hypothetically Speaking, I'd listen to nothing but Cro-Mags. That **** is so heavy, so good, fast enough, and gets me so ****ing amped on anything. If I'm riding a stationary bike, its what I listen to, and it gets me way too stoked on riding.
