My Raleigh 10 speed restored to a fixed gear.

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to post up a couple of pics of a fixed gear project I'm working on. I bought an old 1970 Raleigh Sports 10 speed on Craigslist for $30.00. Converting it over to a fixed gear. This is my first bike I have done. I used to ride motorcycles, but sort of switched over to bicycles. Just waiting on a few more parts, and it will be ready to go.

Cool looking frame. I never got the appeal of white tires. I would spend all my time cleaning them.

I liked colored tires until I owned a set. Red drove me crazy, white would put me over the edge.

i do like the bike, though.

What crank is that? Did you paint the frame yourself?

The bike looked nice. By now those tires are dirty because we have looked at them. However I am excited to see the conclusion.

Tan leather seat would be a nice contrast.

I think you may need lots of pedal power with that large chain ring and that high gear on the back.
What are the number of teeth you have on the front and back and how do you like the ride?

How did you replace the back wheel to get chain lone right ? Did you use a shorter bottom bracket?

What's a "chain lone" and a "shorter bottom bracket"?

And don't forget the front brake and foot retention, both would be Period Correct as well as necessary for contemporary FG road riding.

That seat color goes well with the bike, now some tape that matches the seat would be nice.

Here's a pic of the great Beryl Burton riding her FG on the road, yes that is a Front brake fitted.
Period correct and road worthy, that's how it was actually done "back when" by World Champions and lesser cyclists.

As always, suit yourself.
