Thanks for that! Sounds incredibly reasonable, especially considering having to mask those Nervex lugs. Did he do the gold bands on top/bottom of the seat tube panels, too, or was that your gold sharpie?
But credit due to you, too, for a lovely color scheme. Is the contrasting color on the head tube and panels more towards yellow, or cream, or....? I'm not visually great with color subtleties.
Oh, and full props on the sharpie work as well! Very nicely done.

The Color Factory experience was really good. He's a small shop, very low key, but easy to work with. I dropped off/picked up myself, which worked out nicely. The price was very reasonable I thought - my prior $100 spray.bike experience vs a little over $200 for a pro doing bead blast, 2 colors, applying decals, and clearcoat.

Nice that the BG saw some of the world, and helped dial in your fit.
Fitting is an occult science to me. Ten trained folks using laser guides and computers can come up with 10 different fits, but David and others like him can eyeball you on a bike, go "Hmmmm....." and nail your fit. I was told Eddy Merckx surprised Brad Thorne from Cane Creek with two awesomely fitting frames after surreptitiously sizing him while they rode in a TdF tech support vehicle. Never saw him on a bicycle. He surprised Brad with the first frame, then again with the second after the next time they did the TdF together. Eddy noticed Brad had put on a little more weight, so he re-dialed the fit a bit.
So neat you've been able to snag contemporary builds from those builders that were so influential in US framebuilding---and they were all in your backyard and you got some hang time there when a yout. How cool is that?!

It got shown and ridden some, it went to Velo Cult and Bob Freemans show, got plenty of looks and compliments.
The biggest thing is the consideration it got in the building of the Strawberry.
Dave and I talked at length and after telling him it was a bit small by the numbers but rides like a dream for me even after realizing I needed to up my lower limit to about 63.
So it and the big silver 66 Merz were the test subjects.
He had me ride both on the trainer, first the BG, then the big Merz and then the BG again, each for about 10 to 15 min. each. He said 'huh" at that point and then he said it was interesting that I settled into both bikes the same despite them being so far apart in size. He checked them both with the angle finder again and I could finally see the light bulb go off and he said "I know exactly what to do, I'm glad we used these two for this" and he did.
The Strawberry rides and feels as good or better than either one of them and they both ride like the great bikes they are from great builders.
Interesting they are both 78's, built within about 100 miles from each other by builders that hung out and rode together.

I have my Voyageur set up for gravelly type rides but these Clement (now Donnelly) MSO Explor are very quiet on the road so this gets some road time, too.

No - but they are located too far from me anyway. I checked out True North (close to me but booked solid and not taking work that isn't their own build) and VeloColour which is further away - I got the $900 off their web site - to be honest it was cheaper back when I looked into it and prices have skyrocketed but even 2 years ago it was over $600CAD. There are a couple of custom painters in my area but their prices are not any better. Powder coating is still in the $300-$400 range including prep, and while I am OK with PC for some things I would prefer paint.

Yep, very cool and dark art is an understatement. You have to have the right vibe, relationship, kum bah ya, understanding, whatever you want to call it with the builder and it will still be a crap shoot to some degree. If your inner rider didn't come through the way you wanted and the builder thinks it did and vice, versa, you may be in for a surprise.
They have one of the hardest jobs I can think of, fitter, salesman, builder, engineer, psychologist, hand holder, jeweler, blacksmith, financial planner, collections and many more just to build a bicycle frame.
He was amazed that I had both those bikes adjusted exactly the same when they were that much different since I do it by the seat of my pants, literally and figuratively.

As a few others have done, I'll show my more modern green bike, my cherished 2014 Salsa Vaya purchased new as my dream bike. The green colour really caught my eye and a test ride cemented the deal.

Pretty sure I have never dared to show a pic of the green Dawes lightning I have .
It is a daily rider for the wee dark hours(4.30am) when I pedal off to my part time work gig .
Only single speeder I have . Rides really relaxed like most english product of its ilk .
MAy have to fit guards with wet weather on the way I guess . :-)
Hope everyone had a safe Easter!
