That's my bike after a sleet race a few years ago. I was covered in ice too, was pretty metal. We sorta went from actively racing to understanding that we were all just trying to get to the finish. Make sure to dress right, it can be hard to balance staying warm enough with not overheating.

Cover every piece of skin you can. Racing in the sleet/snow isn't fun. It hurts your skin. Stay attentive. Your body has a way of playing against itself when it gets cold. Wool layers if you got them.

Lastly, just realize you're gonna get wet and cold. Sometimes attacks against the group are for nothing more than to stay warm.

I had one group ride crash that was totally my fault because I was under-dressed and hypothermic. Super sloooooow reaction time to a hazard.

On a related note.. We're supposed to have the first local race of the year here in SLC.. I somehow doubt it's gonna happen.

I'm right there with you. I wear layers if its below 80.

I'm going to skip it; not on form to get a result so it was more of a shakedown race. The descent is going to be sketchy, I hit 50 mph on it last time and there's no way following wheels in those conditions is safe.

I also have to work, and my coworker will cover, but I don't want to use up my favor bank.

Had a stage race in those conditions just outside of SLC a few years back. The TT got canceled (thankfully -- there was a descent with a >90* turn at the bottom!), but the RR went off in snow.

i know @spectastic didn't want to post the link to results. suffice to say ths dude raced every single week at this series, plus a few more.

he had 8 identifiable points. would be pretty amazing if 27 (or anywhere close to it) were from races that happened not to get listed.

guess it is also possible he flew to europe on thursday, the day after his mid-week racing, arrived friday, raced saturday, and was back for the following week -- and did so repeatedly. ;-)

I'm in Vegas for work this week. I know some people love Vegas, but it isn't really my scene.

Still, it seems like every time I come here, I end up doing something that is completely sterotypically Vegas. Last time I was here, I ended up at a party in a Bellagio penthouse where they were serving Cristal. And last night, I ended up in the VIP section of a club where they had bottle service. From what I saw, each bottle on the menu was four figures too.

I need to go to vegas as an adult. Short drive away, now. I enjoyed it as a kid when I went on vacation. Thought it wasa cool place. I'm sure it would be great now. I don't really have any friends that are into that kind of stuff though. I've also heard the riding (in general, outdoors stuff) isn't too bad there, too.

The one time I was in Vegas was for gymnastics coaching, and I discovered at 4 am that clubs don't close. Unfortunately I skipped on Calvin Harris cuz it was like 50 bucks and I didn't know who he was at the time. Dammit. I ended up spending 100 on random tequila shots for strangers...

Dang - I've been to Vegas twice and my trips sound boring. I love getting drunk and being able to walk around with open booze but I still try to stay sober enough to ride the next day after a sleep-in.

Riding Red Rock Canyon is fun. So is the nearby River Mountains Loop https://rivermountainstrail.org/

There's GREAT riding, and you feel so far removed from the Strip. I've bene riding there at 75F with pine trees while it was >100F (at 10pm!) on the Strip.

Definitely go. I have quite a few stories from my Marine Corps days and a few almost not boring ones from my married years (wife yelled at a bunch of Japanese girls for unbuttoning my shirt at a Calvin Harris show). Its local enough we go at least 3x a year for various reasons.

If I drank on a regular basis there would be no way my marriage would have lasted 15 years.

Vegas for me is interesting, although the environment (meaning the casinos) really doesn't do much. It's almost like the casinos are there to obstruct my way to whatever else I want to do.

I've had some interesting experiences in LV, having been there for Interbike mainly and also for a number of years after tax season when the Missus's (former) boss flew everyone out there for 4 or 5 days.

I do like being able to drink without worrying about driving. It's generally pretty warm also, so usually the walk back is okay.

If driving the parking garages are generally nice, since they generally don't cost much. But it seems easier to just shuttle back and forth to the airport for things like Interbike. For more vacation stuff a car can help, to travel outside the city, but the few times we had a vehicle we didn't use it much.

Riding there to me is pretty good, but I don't mind doing the same loop repeatedly. My favorite ride by far is to ride out 159 to Red Rocks (haven't been there since they implemented a fee to get in) and roll right past until the Blue Diamond area, then hit 160 back to the Strip. When ridden in that direction the wind is almost always a significant tailwind out of the Red Rocks area so the latter half of 159 and all of 160 are usually pretty intense tailwinds. Makes for a really fast fun second half of a ride.

My wife’s aunt and her husband moved down to LV and we spent a long weekend there last summer. I thought I knew hot growing up in the Sacramento Valley but LV is next level. I left before dawn on the route CDR mentioned and I went through 3 bottles before 7.

We got absolutely walloped by the storm today.

They were calling for a mix of rain and light snow, maybe up to an inch, little wind.

Instead we got at least 4 very wet inches, blizzard conditions, huge drifts, 60 mph winds.

Took me almost 2 hours to make a 30 minute drive, saw probably 20 cars in the ditch or in accidents, had to back down one road and turn around because it was impassable. Multiple interstates closed due to falling trees. It's a mess.
