20.7 miles in advance of the rains moving in. Mid 70s, delightfully cooler weather for the ride just about 2 hours before we got slammed with surprise heat and humidity giving birth to the line of thunderstorms.

It was a nice, warm to hot morning to shred today. Got to see some wild turkeys cross the trail, a deer on it's lonesome, and a coyote.
Lots of climbing and lots of dh was had. Fun day as always.

21 miles, high 70s-low 80s, humid, light wind, mostly sunny, high probability of rain that never materialized. Felt awful for first 10 miles. Ate the almond butter sandwich my W suggested I take with; 15 minutes later, I was full of energy. Did some intervals for the first time in months (20 seconds on, 20 seconds off - hey, I'm not an athlete )

12 miles before the over 100 temps hit. I’m consistently completing 12 miles in under an hour now. Setting these small goals for myself and happy when I reach and sustain them.

Later, I went to the LBS and had new pedals put on my bike, and cleats put on my new shoes. Never had these before, so the guy who works at the store took me out to teach me how to use them. I was no nervous at first that I ended up falling over when I stopped with them the first time. Minor skinned knee. Hurt the ego more than anything. The guy who works at the store was so patient and encouraging, though. I got back on and successfully stopped without falling a few times after that. Just had to get the feel of them, I guess LOL.

Did 10 miles to the co-op and back in 100+ heat. I think I lost 5 pounds in sweat.

Rode 25 miles this morning along A1A (beach road), Delray Beach to Lake Worth. Low 80s with almost 90 percent humidity, yuck!

Yesterday a timed run to the greenway (again) then a looping return up north. Something's happening with the left turn arrow on the way, it's not picking me up. I thought I had that worked out by riding up in the center of the lane but maybe that was only at night with my lighting on or in cooler weather with my parka on. It's hard to set a PR when you're waiting through multiple cycles at the light.

I used a shoe lace and tied half a t-shirt to the bars for sweat, that works fine. It's long enough I can stretch it to my face.

16.2 miles on the paved roads. Rode in the dry spell between two monsoon-like thunderstorms. Kept one eye on the black clouds moving in across the mountains, and ended the ride, still dry, just as the clouds blacked out the sun.

Drove to the MUP (path start is two towns up from me, or 12 miles away whichever way you want to say it) and cycled to the bike shop in the next town (11 miles up, right off the path) where I had them do a few tweeks on my newest ebike, then back on the bike, a bit of a tour around the town, then back on the path heading back to the MUP parking lot. The path is tree shaded almost 100% of the way, a boon as the temps and humidity are rocketing up again. It was a joy to pedal along just relaxing and saying hello to everyone else on the path, and stopping to pet and love-on any puppy being walked. Getting in my riding now since Monday is expected to have a heat index of 105, and extremely high humidity.

First time for me having to remove the bike's front wheel - necessary for the bike to fit inside the electric car (2018 Leaf SV). But it fit beautifully, and as an added bonus the bike's motor is ideally placed to sit firmly in the hatchback's lock-catch depression, which holds the bike upright without assistance, the front forks overhanging in the air, so that I can easily remove or replace the front wheel. Having a disk brake makes it easier to slide the wheel in place, too. All extremely easy to do by myself.

The other day I saw two road bikes riding shotgun on the roof of a Tesla. Forgot to snap a pic - that would have been a classic, although I was disappointed the bikes weren't electric as well (albeit true zero emission).

Picture at the end of a lovely, peaceful 23.7 mile outing - my ebike ready to go home in my e-car.

Met my lady in Novato for lunch and was going to loop around China Camp on the way back but I was riding directly into 15 mph wind.

I said to myself "self, let's go back home!"

I rode today

Enjoyed an hour around the neighborhood. Getting used to using bike shoes and cleats. I feel differences in how pedaling feels, in a good way. I think I will like these.

Just got back from a 25-miler, but still no faster. Fairly quiet roads today.

Normal Sunday Birmingham ride, though a little shorter, as some of the riders are leaving town. I added a few miles before packing it up.

Bam 2019

I rode BAM 2019 Aug. 15-18. It was a great ride, very well organized. It rained during the night 2 days but the days were beautiful. The ride averaged a little over 60 miles a day.

https://bambiketour.org/bam-2019-tour/

I did crack the rear hub shell on the 3d day. I managed to ride another 10 miles to the lunch spot before sagging it into the next town which had a bike shop that had a 126 mm rear wheel that I bought (formula hubs and Sun M13 rim). Now I have mismatched wheels. I'm pretty sure that there's a rule against that but what the heck it let me finish the ride. A heavy t storm blew in the last night. The weather turned a little cooler and we faced a stiff headwind and some of the toughest hills on the last day (68 miles).

I rode my 1985 Cannondale ST 400. The bike is a great long distance machine and I really appreciated the triple water bottle braze ons.

Went up to Elkhart IN this past weekend to ride the 50 mile route of the Quilt Garden Ride. Stopped at about fifteen quilt gardens. Good time had by all!

Rode about an hour in between business calls today. Really wanted to get a ride in since I won’t be able to ride for a few days. I’m having a small procedure tomorrow. Nothing major (oral surgery,) but there is cutting, stitching and recovery time involved. The expectation is that the pain will keep me inactive for a few days or so. I will miss my near-daily rides.

I've had a week of hot-hot mid-day rides (3/32-inch sweat layer on entire body surface, utterly drenched) (lesson learned: don't squeeze your helmet down onto your head after a week of that unless you want an eye full of salt). Last night I rode after dark and 89F felt like a nice spring day. Thunderheads on the horizon and a thunderbolt from above gave a nice show.
