I got mine and used the 30% coupon. I was hit with some fraudulent charges on several cards used on Nashbar previously. I have since discovered that B of A offers something called ShopSafe which is basically a fixed amount, fixed time one time use credit card number. The hackers want it, they can have it once I am done with it.

Got the letter today. Nashbar realized they had a problem, shut down their web site on March 3rd and send out letters in late July to finally acknowledge a breach. Friggin amazing to wait 6 months to inform those affected. And I was one of those affected and it was a mess to clean up.
But, oh wait, that 30% discount on my next puchase will surely make up for it. Yeah, right!

Got mine yesterday.
That explains the fraud purchase earlier this year that led to cancelling my card.
Nice job Nashbar!!!

My card was compromised in December and used to buy stuff off of Chainlove. What's odd is that my credit card company flagged the two chainlove purchases as suspect, even though I had bought stuff from them before. How could they tell??? Anyway, my card was destroyed and replaced months before I got the letter, and the whole time I was assuming chainlove was to blame.

I haven't received a letter from Nashbar, but I did have $600 of fraudulent charges on my debit card after doing business with them. Where in the hell is my 30% off coupon?
New debit card and all that, got my money back in a few days. Visa apparently had to wait for the charges to clear before I could issue an official fraud dispute and get a reversal. This is after they called me to confirm the charges were fraudulent.

HI, I see a number of really negative replies. I however believe Nashbar is being a truly respectable supplier by notifying their customers of a possible problem. I have been a customer for over 15 years and the service is great. They did offer a 30% off on a future order. I respect them for their being honest with me. curtwally

I used Citi's one-time-number feature when I ordered a Ferrari cap from Italy. It definitely gave me peace of mind, even if unnecessary. If anyone doesn't want their 30% coupon I will gladly take it!

Just received my letter from Nashbar today...though I already replaced my credit card back in February due to fraudulent charges. Also got my free annual credit report back then just to make sure.

I find it funny that Nashbar has the decency to even send out letters. Performance didn't do anything about it. Nashbar looks like the bad guy when both companies had the same problem.

Aren't Performance Bike and Nashbar owned by the same holding company? I'd guess that only Nashbar's servers were hacked, but not Performance Bike's. Nice that they sent the letters, but to wait almost 6 months to send them is unforgivable.

When they found out about the security breach they should have immediately emailed their customers.
It seems like a get an email every other day about this "Super 1 day sale" or "Mad Summer Sale".
Its garbage. Immediately notify people so that 6 months down the road we all arent still worried about identity theft

I received my letter last week, and it did include a code for 30% off my next order. Not a separate coupon...it was included in the body of the letter.
As for the time it took them to send out the letters, this article may shed some light on the process.
Too little too late? Maybe, but being somewhat involved in e-commerce in my own job I can understand why they needed to get their ducks in a row.
FWIW, I've had fraudulent charges to my CC on three separate occasions over the last few years, and only one was after a purchase from Nashbar, so I wouldn't even be able to say for certain that the most recent fraud was due to Nashbar's breach. In the first two cases it was never discovered (or at least disclosed to me) where the breach occurred, so I'm willing to give Nashbar at least a little credit for following through on this to the extent that they are able.

Our mastercard let's me create virtual credit card numbers (only valid for one merchant, you specify the credit limit and date limit). Check out ShopSafe, for example. I now only use virtual numbers on the web.
Our stolen CC number (possibly via Nashbar) was a major hassle since it was discovered when we were on a trip. You can read about it here.

In the meantime I bought from PBK on a Visa card a few weeks ago and there are no fraudulent charges on the account. Yet.
Stay tuned.

Got mine last week
Got my letter from Nashbar last week, offering a 30% discount, and an apology.
But why would I trust them? They didn't get hit once, they had a recurring breach, over months, and they would not really acknowledge it.
They've even got some things I want, but they lost my business permanently.
Anyone know an alternative to Nashbar/Performance?

Honestly, they'd have been better off not sending me The Letter. At least then I'd have been in some doubt as to whether they were responsible for my credit card being hacked or if it was somebody else. Now I know for sure that they're the problem and can't be trusted should a similar problem occur in the future...

I was a bit worried about this, especially from reading others' past experiences. I ordered from PBK today and used Paypal's random credit card generator (toolbar add-in) and the transaction went through no-problem. Hopefully I get my schwag soon-ish.
