Anyone ever take a wheel as a carry on piece of luggage?

Anyone ever take a bicycle wheel as a carry on piece of luggage? Okay, I suppose this isn't strictly C&V, but Its a westwood rim for an old single speed. I wasn't sure where to post this.

How about as checked luggage? Its ~28"x28"x1 1/2" ...so about 58 linear inches, so I think I can check it.

Most airlines put a limit on maximum dimensions, typically around 24" x 16" x 10". If it's carry-on, it still has to fit in the overhead compartment of the plane you're in, which can cause some problems on commuter jets.

As long as it's within those specs and it isn't a fire hazard or a weapon the airline could care less what you bring onboard. The last flight I was on I took a cement lawn ornament with me and they didn't blink an eye.

A rim isn't going to fit as carryon. It has to be stowed under your seat or in an overhead bin before the plane takes off.

Sometimes they are nice and will store your odd sized carry-on luggage in the crew quarters but these days I wouldn't count on it.

Some friends of mine bought a Lambretta scooter in Italy, disassembled it and brought it home in their checked and carry-on luggage. This was the 90's. Good times.
