I currently have a Giant Tough road 2018


Running the stock Giant sycamore S gravel tyres 29 x 2.0 using tubes

Rims Giants own brand Tubeless compatible rims at 19mm internal

So they will need rim taping 1st

So looking what rim tape?

And running the WTB ByWay 700 x 44

I run 50psi rear, 45psi front as a bit chunky at the moment

Is that rim wide enough for that size of tyre when tubeless?

WTB's are 50psi max

What max PSI's should I been looking at?



Stans no tubes race sealant seems to get good reviews?

I have begun using tubeless sealant in tubes on my fat bike. Being in the tubes means it shouldn't make a mess when you remove a tire. So far no air loss.

Some people don't like using tubeless on road bikes, because the pressure is so much higher, and some leaks may not seal as well. I have not done it myself.

Tape - Yes.
Orange seal - Best IMHO.

I run Hutchinson tubeless tires on my road bike. I've done it for years and will never go back.

I'm still running tubes in my old school 26er mtb. So far, I'm still able to out ride all the new school kids (save for the really fast and technically sound ones) on their latest high-tech tubeless 27er or 29er wheels. I didn't miss any tubeless revolution in the mtb world, so I doubt that I'll miss any tubeless revolution (that hasn't really taken off) in the road world either.

There are a huge variety of tapes that can work. https://forums.mtbr.com/wheels-tires...ad-926021.html On my bikes i've just used Gorilla. I think the DIY crowd has now mostly moved on to Tyvek house tape. I tried Kapton once and it worked fine. If you want to buy a bike product, Stan's.

I've also had better luck with Orange Seal than with Stan's or Truckerco but I think that's partly because I started with OEM non-tubeless tires and the Stan's would bleed out the sidewall and the Orange Seal wouldn't. Since those wore out I'm using "real" tubeless tires with the butyl layer, so they will never bleed, but I never bought any more Stan's either.

This is 80% about punctures for me, and 20% about running the tires softer. I've got a bum ticker so I'm never going as fast as aclinjury 's new school kids.

Scotch 8898 is my favorite tape. I'd probably grab the 18mm for those rims.

I have this tape. While I don't run tubeless, but I use this tape in lieu of rim tape. I have found this tape to be a tad too thick such that it doesn't hug the countour of the rim bed.
